Spectre and Raise Dead

The spectre notes that it can be destroyed with a raise dead spell (will negates).

Raise dead has a 1 minute casting time.

What is the point of this vulnerability?


Have warriors and meat walls keep it busy till you finish casting.


Turn Undead makes undead flee for 1 minute. Raise Dead conveniently has a casting time of 1 minute. Make the spectre flee, cast the spell, hold the charge and when it returns touch it and watch it explode. Then cry, because that was a lot of money to spend...

Maybe not.


That's a bit of 1st edition tradition, there. The trick was in the monster description in AD&D, and was something you might think of doing back then, since RD worked differently.
