Somewhere in the PFS rules I thought I saw something about humans getting an automatic bonus language according to their ethnicity. I can't seem to find that now. Am I going crazy or is that somewhere in there?

It's listed in the Additional Resources page:

Quote:
Races: All human ethnicities are legal except Azlanti, humans begin play knowing all listed languages for their chosen ethnicity as racial languages;

Where in the Additional Resources page?

I can't find it.

It's in the little gray bar (on some pages, but probably not this page you are looking at right now) under the blue bar near the top of the page.

Also: here.

which "races" get this short straw (which have Common as the ethnic language?)
Hay! great! I just realized that this means my Chelaxian get's another language... wait, is there a language Chelaxian?

Pretty sure Chelaxians, the ethnicity, only speak Taldane... which is Common.

Taldans, too.

Yes.

Pretty sure Andorans are also on board the 'common's my native tongue' wagon.

Especially since they're almost all Chelaxian. Andoran isn't an ethnicity, just a political boundary.

Actually, no, no extra language for Cheliax, Taldor or Andoran. The Common language of the Inner Sea is also the native language for these three countries. So while the rest of the human ethnicities/races that can be played in PFS get a bonus native language, these three get shorted. Of course, this also only went into effect once the Inner Sea World Guide was released, since in the old Campaign Setting book the human ethnicities did not get their native language and Common for free.

Just to make things a little more confusing... :)

There actually is a language called Chelaxian. It's the name Chelaxians use for Taldane/Common :)

The history is that the Taldans spread their language throughout their empire. When Taldor collapsed and Cheliax rose, the new empire re-named the language and continued its dissemination.

So Chelaxian is like American, while Taldane is English?

Spoiler:
I proudly speak Skald.

** spoiler omitted **

Pretty much, yeah.

Besides, we all know Thassilonian is the most useful.

I actually have a habit, regardless of the character, of taking at least some linguistics. This generally will result in random ancient languages.

We are Pathfinders, after all

GMs will sometimes assume I cannot read things in tombs, it is amusing when my fighter/paladin can. It's less surprising with my witch, though.

So, question: Since the regional languages do not appear on anyone's list of bonus languages (except for those that say "Any") does that mean that the non-human races actually have to spend ranks in Linguistics to learn things like Osiriani or Varisian even if they were born and raised there?

I know that a lot of GMs just let you do it, but this is PFS, so I have to make sure.
