The Exchange

This is part one of a series of Threads for the random generation of an Adventure Module. Feel free to contribute an Adventure Scenario to the numbered list.

100 Adventure Scenarios

1. A child is pushed down a village well by some bad individual. The PCs must descend the well to rescue the child from a subterranean water storage cistern and learn the villian's identity.


2. A Drow bard is charming children and leading them into underground caverns while playing a flute. The dark piper has an unknown identity.

3. The village well is being poisoned by an aboleth, which lives in a series of caverns accessible from the river, but not the well itself.

4. The local midwife is a secret cultist of a dark god which explains the large number of stillbirths and birth defects in the village

Scarab Sages

5. While travelling to a local trade center, the party is approached by a small child foaming at the mouth, he quickly dies as the party gets within 100 yards.

A number of other children in the town are also dying from similar seizures as the party approaches the town. Within an hour much of the town falls sick from terrible cramps.

The local baker is the only adult who actually dies, muttering about the strange flour.

Eyes turn towards the new mill, on the river below the graveyard...

6. The PCs are asked to infiltrate a fancy party in order to learn the location of a dungeon the host once visited.

7. An injured metallic dragon asks the PCs to help retrieve his treasure horde from a band of evil adventurers.

8. A good race of subterranean fungusfolk ask the PCs to defend their dungeon from an invasion of goblins and other monsters.

The Exchange

9. A villager is found torn to pieces. Everyone blames a Werewolf living in a Cave a day's travel from the village.

10. An isolated village is under siege by ravenous beasts during the dead of winter with snow quickly piling up around the village walls and tensions running high as supplies dwindle. With no way to evacuate or feed the entire population, the party is called on to stave off the beasts and protect the village until it is once again safe to leave.

11. Fey creatures have abducted a baby claiming the child is a member of their royalty. The party is tasked with rescuing the child before the creatures can complete a ritual binding it to their kind forever. Of course, the fey could be telling the truth.

12. When the party is hired to investigate the source of several grisly murders, livestock mutilations and demolished houses, they discover a gray render has developed a strong attachment to an orphan living alone in his family's ruined shack in the nearby wilderness. The render "protects" the kid by dismembering or destroying anything it perceives as a threat to the child.

13. The party hears of a gigantic, enchanted sand castle on a stretch of beach filled with traps, monsters and treasure that appears once every X years. Anyone who enters stands to become very wealthy but must escape before the incoming tide sweeps the castle away for another X years.

14. A friend of one of the PCs asks for the party's help when he discovers his child isn't imagining things and there really are monsters living under its bed. The monsters, outsiders by nature, have created a portal to their world under the child's bed that opens any time the room is dark.

15. A Villager takes an enemy nation coin from his young child who found it in the dirt near the village well.

16. An eccentric adventuring inventor proposes a trip to the moon upon his magnificent extra-terristrial dirigible. He requires brave souls to accompany him on his trip, and defend against hull-boring star-squid, and any hostile locals on the moon.

17. Every NPC the PCs have ever treated rudely, as if they were just quest spouts or cardboard vendors plot their revenge against the PCs by sending them against a Dragon they have no hope of defeating an "gifting" them with cursed items.

18. The PCs step out of their inn and look up to see the roof of an impossibly huge Titan's home. During the night the Titan stole away with the PC's town, and he has invited his titanic buddies around for game night. Guess who gets to be the minis?


19. PC's meet in a Bathhouse with mentor/patron Village Elder who speaks
of Rebellion possibly caused by a Monster. PC's must go to forbidden city
and consult sage.

20. PC's meet in a Market with mentor/patron Sensei who speaks of Murder
possibly caused by Yakuza. PC's must go to hidden valley and find item.

21. PC's meet in a Temple with mentor/patron Village Elder who speaks
of Mystery possibly caused by Ninja. PC's must go to haunted ruins and
find item.

22. PC's meet in a Market with mentor/patron Village Elder who speaks
of War possibly caused by Yakuza. PC's must go to mystic shrine and
solve puzzle.

23. PC's meet in a Market with mentor/patron Samurai who speaks of
Evacuation possibly caused by rival Samurai. PC's must go to lost
monastery and storm place.

Sovereign Court

24. Goblins have settled in the farm lands and are raiding cows, sheep and random chickens they find roaming about. They feel that since these beasts are not fenced in, they are free to take. They have caves full of mushrooms and berry bushes outside the caves but they want meat and eggs as well.

25. A noble in the city has decided to punish the women of the red light disctrict. His murders are brutal and savage. Can he be stopped?

26. A local Alchemist has been experimenting with mutigenes. One has gone haywire and he randomly transform into a monster and kills without regard.

27. A children have come up missing as they are in the woods gathering fruits and nuts, who has taken them and for what purpose. Is it the witch, or the hunter some say is really a werewolf.

I get the joke, but I think that suggestion is a little lacking in flesh. It reminds me of that stupid Sprite commercial where the guys are sitting around trying to write a script and one guy spews out an idea about a panda fighting ninjas on a pirate ship in order to save a cheerleader or the Family Guy episode of South Park where they discover a dolphin is pitching ideas for the show by selecting from random multi-colored balls. Anyway, I'm inclined to count Grand Magus' contribution as #19.

20. A speaking raven descends on the party as they travel the countryside claiming he is the familiar of a wizard in desperate need of rescuing. Could it be a trap?

21. A nobleman invites the adventurers and another adventuring company (possibly business rivals of the party) to his castle under the pretense of celebrating their many victories though his true intent is to size them up as candidates for donors to his new and improved flesh golem.

22. Sent to negotiate peace with a tribe of boggards, a member of the party is selected to become the spouse of the creatures' "swamp goddess," a froghemoth.

23. During a stormy voyage while traveling by passenger ship, the party discovers a murdered deckhand and learns someone aboard the vessel isn't who or what they appear to be. Some kind of shapechanger (doppelganger) or body-hopping monstrosity (intellect devourer) is using the faces of its victims to murder everyone on board.

32. The PCs are detained without trial or charge by a local magistrate until their families pay a large fine.

33. The party is hired by a village to deliver and hang a notorious criminal at a crossroads on the edge of their land. The superstitious villagers believe this will keep the criminal's evil spirit from finding his way back to their homes where he might do even more harm.

The Exchange

34. The PCs stumble across their favourite BBEG hanging in a Cage outside a town. He is to die of hunger just for being a Wizard. Any Wizard PC will be arrested and likewise caged.

Scarab Sages

35. The PCs come across a slaughtered caravan. They hear crying and discover a baby, still alive under its dead mother. Upon searching the mother they discover a letter from her sister, inviting her and her husband (also among the dead) to come live and work with them in a distant town.

36. A series of vicious, ritualistic murders begins to plague the town. They are eerily similar to murders that took place over 20 years ago. Those murders were put down by another group of adventurers, who lost several of their own in the process. The survivors went their separate ways shortly thereafter, and now live quiet, retired lives....

Sovereign Court

37. The players stumble into a town that up until recently was doing well, but has since become a ghost town. A plague has hit the village and those that die arrise again as undead. Un-known to the party a BBEG is responsible and is controlling them. To ake matter worse their are a band of now orphaned children surviving in the attics of buildings ranging from ages 3 - 14. You the party must stop the plague and also protect and find a home for the 2 dozen orphanes that are the last of their village.

38. The party encounters a sobbing kobold on the outskirts of a gnome community who claims to be a reincarnated gnome adventurer who only wishes to return to his home and family but fears he will be slain on sight. Is he really a spy for an invading kobold tribe?

39. After gauging their loyalties, a man claiming to be an agent of the throne approaches the party with a mission to assassinate the prince. The agent claims the prince, who has never been seen in public, is the monstrous result of the king and some foul creature (possibly a hag, succubus or lamia matriarch,) and that the king and his court know nothing of the plot so they may remain inculpable of the murder.

40. The party learns of a gravity defying inverted pyramid that slowly spins as it balances on its tip in a vast desert. Some legends say the structure is filled with the treasures of a long-dead civilization while others claim it is a prison for an evil god-king.

41. The PCs are struck by a witch's Curse, and tasked with doing something that goes against their alignment in order to have it removed.

Wake up, little thread. It's time to make the donuts.

42. The PCs board a passenger ship in order to travel to a faraway land away and, after a week at sea, awake to discover they're locked into their staterooms and the crew of the vessel has actually piloted the boat into outer space and intends to sell the passengers as slaves to the Moon Beasts. The adventurers may have an opportunity to take over the ship and head home, but learn many others have already been kidnapped and remain trapped on the moon's surface.

43. While traveling through the wilderness, the party encounters a newly awakened predator animal (possibly a deinonychus, bear or lion) who wishes to accompany the PCs in order to learn how a thinking creature should act. The animal does not know why it was given this intelligence or where the druid responsible might be. Whether or not they accept the animal into their ranks, the party eventually comes to a village where the animal may have once killed several of the residents while still an ordinary beast and now the villagers are organizing a hunting party to kill the creature.

44. The PCs are summoned to a farming village preparing for an annual plague of insects that sweeps into the fields every year to devour half the harvest. The mayor wants the source of the plague found and the insects destroyed once and for all, but the party has limited time to act as the swarm will arrive any day.

45. A scholar cataloging the various types of flora and fauna native to his region hires the party to escort him into a system of deep caves in order to observe its plants, animals and monsters. Of course, the scholar doesn't want any of the creatures or plants harmed during the journey.

46. The party discovers an insane cult of Groetus has captured a massive black pudding and intends to use split-off oozes to destroy a city during a suicide attack.


47. You encounter three orcs on a bridge trying to fix a broken down ox drawn wagon. Chained and tied to the wagon is a large crate covered in strange writing. The orcs, oddly, do not seem hostile and ask for your help.
