Ideal? Probably a sea singer or merfolk bard, a sea reaver barbarian, a rogue (swashbuckler?) and either a cleric of besmara or a sorcerer of some kind. Or a gunslinger. Would be the most effective setup, I would think-plus it would be awesome.

Grand Lodge

A druid, particularly one invested in spells that affect wooden ships or water, along with wild-shapes/animal companions with swim speeds is a very handy contribution.

At early levels a monk is quite handy, no ACP, hands likely always free for climbing, or maneuvering an enemy off a boat. Obviously taking an archetype to increase their viability is ideal.

See a couple of Monk pirates. Thought Pirates where supposed to be Chaotic and Monks had to be Lawful.

At sea nobody survives long being chaotic.

Regardless, these days a brawler more or less gets what anyone would want out of a monk with way more appropriate flavor for this AP.

Not everyone has the Advanced Class Guide though, I do not for example

Everyone has access to the rules through the PRD.

One could find inspiration for a monk in Eustass "the monk" though a little far fetched. There is a lot of tian influence in the Shackles so thats a niche for monks too.
