I've noticed that in the Carrion Crown AP, there have been a few references to different Pathfinder RPG books (such as the Advanced Player's Guide, the Gamemastery Guide and Adventurer's Armory), without reprinting the relevant rules.
I know that most GM's own the material and that that the limited space is better served to advance the story in the AP. However, my understanding has always been that the Core rules and the Bestiary contained everything you need to run an AP. In other words, if a rule didn't appear in one of those books, it would be reprinted in the AP. At least, that is how it used to be in the Dungeon adventures and the AP's up to now. The managing editors confirmed that quite a few times in previous years.
So my question is, has this changed and, if so, what books is a GM expected to own now?

Uh-oh, in before Bugleyman. There were several major flamewars on this topic, you might want to search for the issue.
Basically, whatever you need to run an AP adventure is listed on splash page. With APG, UM and both Bestiaries up on Paizo's PRD (or d20pfsrd), you can access all the rules for free. Ultimate Combat should be up there soon.
Paizo's policy has changed since Dungeon times, because back in the 3.5 era supplemental materials weren't open content. Now that all the rules are open and floating around the net, statblock space can be saved to maximize the amount of new creative stuff in APs.

This.
Open content means anyone who has the internet can access pretty much anything. As a DM I love that the AP's aren't limited to core and/or what they can fit into the AP. That means they don't have to stat block up everything and have more room for story.
YMMV.
