I'm new to pathfinder and I was doing some poking around and i see no Mindflayers. They are my fav monster. Just wondering whats up with that.
Ilithids are intelectual property of wizards of the coast. Paizo is not allowed to use then or convert then to pathfinder rules. ever

Intellect Devourers are cooler, anyway.
There are several possible stand-ins. Intellect devourers, urdefhans, and at least one third-party creature (LPJ Design's Cerebral Assassins, for example) come to mind.
Heck, sinspawn of some sort would probably work. Or one could earn the enmity of a community of Elder Things.
"Oh, dear. Not only are the shoggoths still not behaving themselves, but it appears that the planet developed quite the vertebrate infestation while we were hibernating. Something must be done."

Here's why
Hehe that is great.
however I will have to say the whole issue is aggrivating, Mind Flayers are an intregal part of the game period. They have existed for a very long time as the ultimate villans for many. H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos is basically about mind flayers. Even the description of Cthulhu is same. I see wizards property as more of arrogance.
on a side note who owns the cthulhu rights? if not wizard Find them and buy rights to create Mind Flayers (but call them Cthulhu Mind Rippers) Im not a lawyer but I dont think wizard could explain to a judge how the Mind Ripper based on a 1920's book infringed on a 1980's creature. Theoretically you could counter sue for the copyright infringment on the look if you have rights from Lovecrafts book.

Denizens of Leng are the Pathfinder "Cthulian otherworldly mastermind" replacements for Illithids, although they don't have the brutal combat capabilities that the squid-faces have (no psionic blast, no sucking your brains out). You could also use Intellect Devourers, Aboleths, or even Shoggoths, depending on how you use your mind flayers.
Or, you know, just use mind flayers. Just because Paizo can't use them in their modules and adventure paths doesn't mean you can't use them in your home games. Same with beholders, etc.
