Recruiting for ongoing Kingmaker Campaign

Gamer Connection

1 to 50 of 103 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

Hi everyone! We are recruiting for an extremely fast paced kingmaker campaign. We just passed the 3500 post mark and have been going for a little over two months. The group averages about 5-6 posts a day per person. We also will do the occasional battle over Skype when warranted. Keep that in mind when applying. We are still in the first book and are currently exploring the greenbelt. That being said we have an excellent group of roleplayers with a good mix of new and experienced players. We are looking for a frontline fighter that can move into being a general in the new kingdom we are in the process of building. The general works a little bit differently in this game in the sense that Intelligence will be just as important to a good general, for battle strategy and such, as actual combat ability is.

We are looking for one MAYBE two and both are going to need to be martial classes. Frontline fighters, tanks, dextrous fighters, etc.

All character concepts must be able to work in a team environment. We are looking to build a kingdom here and we have plenty of people who want to kill us and make our lives difficult so we are hoping that won't include party members. ;)

Character creation:

3rd level
28 point buy
Core, APG, UM, UC are allowed (anything else must meet approval.)
No Evil Alignments
3 traits one of which must come from the kingmaker campaign.

People selected will get a "Signature" magical item designed specifically for them so don't buy any magical gear beyond consumables like potions and scrolls and wands at the beginning. You do not need to have equipment done for a submission.

Please submit basic crunch and backstory here. Preference will definitely be given to cool and interesting concepts and well thought out backstories.

Looking forward to seeing those submissions!

Hey, I'm posting with the 22 pt buy RotL alias of the character that i made from the origonal Kingmaker Ka'etil.

Below is the Level 1 version Kingmaker with a 20 point buy, so i gotta tweek him, but wanted to get this in initially and quick, also get comments before i do too much fixin'

what sort of cash to we get to buy starting goods?

Ka'etil Malas'rae

story:

(translates roughly to dragon-eyed wild war beast)
is an Issian Half-elf, named Ka'etil by his beautiful elven mother, Ky'aviawyn. He was sired by a not very honest, not very kind, not very human being of great magical power. But when she found out she was with child, Kyavia decided to keep the child, but much to her dismay, he turned out to take more after his father than her. As a boy, he was prone to sever mood-swings and violent out-bursts, and his mind was on the more fragile side.

His rough nature earned him the title of Malas'rae, and true to his name, music soothed the savage beast within him, and he adored his mothers songs. Is the only thing he misses of his now abandoned home. He struck out on his own as a young man, making his name known, earning him the attention of the Swordlords as they sent out their charters. Even though he was born an Issian, he seems to have no real ties to the nation.

[insert ironic quip about being punctual, as he was 2 levels late to the party, lol]

description:

He has a powerful build, graceful like an elf, muscular, lean, and sinewy. Dark black hair hangs unevenly shorn, not wild but unkempt, in his face, not quite concealing bright burning red slitted eyes. He wears a ragged cloak over his armor, not quite concealing the blade at his side. most of his garments are ragged, save elven attire, his only keepsake from home, which he keeps in pristine condition as he does like to look nice every now and again.

any comments i can take too.

Love the many posts per day, as my normal obsessive re-checking pages/threads which is normally a frustrating problem for me would actually be useful. =]

I fixed my profile, leveled, and have a way to meet the party and explain my lateness and powers.

Just want to know how much cash i have and how you calculate HP.

Don't worry about cash and equipment yet. I'm going to leave the recruitment thread open until Wednesday and will pick then.

I would like to present a character, although it would be helpful to know what the group is missing if you dont mind me asking

The party cleric/oracle would LOVE for a single class paladin to help her detect and smite evil.

Aside from that, we have a fey blood sorc, a druid focused on summoning, and a multi class rogue/ranger/gunslinger.

Please, please, please - someone PLEASE submit a paladin. We REALLY could use a strong lawful presence to bring the group together.

Don't listen to her shes trying to lead you down the path of righteousness...I'm going to lead you down the path that ROCKS! (sorry two year old just got finished watching emperors new groove lol)

I will happily submit a paladin, just need a couple of minutes to put him together

Be still my heart!

No, really. My cleric/oracle has had a really tough time of things lately.

Hello All

Hi, I'm recruiting specificallly for the Kingmaker Campaign. We're still in book one, about half way through.

For those of you who know the books; don't worry; I changed them enough you won't know much of anything, except through actually role-playing the adventure.

Right now I am looking for a warrior who will become a general. The REASON you gain 28 points via point by is because (typically) generals are not simply "tuff" fighters or tanks. They can think, and strategize, and reason, and have some form of charisma. This is all reflected when you advance in level and begin raising an army. Your city building powers are not going to be based simply on "strength", but a host of other stats as well.

For those of you who are excited to play; let me know. I am eager to see responses.

Thanks!

I tweaked my profile a bit, and am willing to alter the character to better fit the role, and would be really excited to get to play.

@Hermia, "While I don't detect evil, and am not "Lawful" I'm a loyal person and really am not confrontational by nature, i just sometimes... get a little... excited sometimes. But I do try to do my part and not cause problems. Don't mind the horns. It's not my fault, I'm really not a bad guy at all. =]"

No worries, friend. We need front line fighters, too. Just, yeah, there be evil. Loads of it, and preparing one spell for the day isn't really cutting it thus far.

I think I must be mis-reading your sheet. It looks like you have spent 31 points

16 + 2 (10 points)
14 (5 points)
14 (5 points)
15 (7 points)
9 (-1 points)
14 (5 points)

That is a bit higher then the build was scheduled for. By the way, are you cool with the frequency of postings coupled with the use of Skype and MapTools? Let me know... Thanks!

Derp. Fix'd. Bact to 28

His 7 wis is reflected in his saves and stats, just forgot to update the sheet there.
I'm great with the frequent posts, and can post from my phone (how I did this one) and I've used skype/maptools to play some pfs in the past and am quite comfortable with it.

Is the rest of the character to your liking?

Well, it's not bad... if it were me, though, I'd drop one of your stats down a bit, just so you can bump your wisdom up somewhat. A barbarian with a low wisdom strikes me as unusual, but only beacuse I always read "Int" as "book smart" and "Wisdom" as "street smart".

The reason I gave out the points so high was to build a more well rounded, epic character. If it were me, I might drop the Int to a twelve, and bump the Wisdom to a 10. You can also think of dropping your Con to a 13, too, and pick up the +1 on level 4, which would swing things right back in your favor... and let your character be a little more cunning.

Personally, I'd give yourself the following (given your personality/background)

Str 16 10
Dex 14 (+2 = 16) 5
Con 13 3
Int 13 3
Wis 12 2
Cha 14 5

You wouldn't have the classic "+4" fighter, but if you are playing a Barbarian, I wouldn't worry about it. Plus, you'll be getting a signature item of pretty decent power, so don't worry too much about that either. Play how you want, of course, but in this game building your kingmaker leadership rules are slightly different house rules.

That's just my humble suggestion, though. The more we know about your character, the more we'll be able to build on him. Go ahead read the last couple of days posting, to get yourself situated.

When I know more, I'll send out some basic house rules, and your signature item. You gain a lot of special abilities and powers, because the tweeks I made are very hard. just so you know... it's a bit... gritty. :)

Okay, I'll keep my eye out. So far, you're the only one showing interest but I am especialy exited that you are down with frequency. We (me and especially two of the girls in the group) like to post a lot. Between the three of us (not counting others) we often through out fifty a day. It can be crazy, but i do like good wriitng.

i do have school, so i don't know if I'll make 50, lol.

sorry it took so long to post again, need to pack to fly home in the mornin =P

i do think taking the Str down works, especially cause i'll be getting a 10 more str from DD and EH, so totaling a 26 for a +8 is nice.

I've always thought of Wis as being about insight and mental fortitude, and he's a bit out of his head and uses ranks for the rest.
Int has to do with how clever/quick witted someone is, to me.

maybe a spread of:
16
16
13
14
10
14

with this spread i still get to keep a pretty sharp character, cause i like sharp, but i don't hurt so bad in terms of will-saves and wis-based skills. i do like having a bunch of ranks to toss around, but +2 from into ain't too bad.

Stat boots go to con 1 then cha 3.

you talked about having int and cha being more important to a general with your house-rules. how do those work?

Looks good. Send me an email, and I will mail you the basics for house rules. No, this isn't a ruse... I do this for all my players for maps, XP charts, and so forth. Send me a cheap google account if you'd like, just until we get things started, if you'd prefer, and I can forward you on the house rules for that.

Also, i had a story for another version of the character that involved him setting out to hunt down his father initially. I'd totally want to include that if it would fit into the setting, you said gritty, and patricide is pretty heavy stuff, if you think that'd be a cool plot-hook. I don't really know about how playing scenarios like this work, only been in homebrew worlds so far.

I can talk to ya about the Dad if you might be interested in tossing him into the world to show up eventually.

Do i use the account from the PBP campaign or is there another one to use. I'll take a look and shoot you an email in a little bit i i don't hear back

That detail can easily be added. I generally have a brief questionare for players to fill out for their backstory details, and that is the perfect place to have such details meshed out. It not only gives me a reference to what you are planning on playing (via allies and enemies) but it also guides me on how to reac to your character's decisions - i.e. awards for social RPing, etcetera...

Use whatever account that you frequently check emails on, that way, when I send out maps of the world, XP totals for the weeks, house rules, charts, etcetera, you'll know where to go. Normally I mention that I am doing this on the site when I send it out, but however you want to do it, just so long as we can get the details out there.

Well, dude, it is now 2:15 for me... Eastern Standard and all, and I work two jobs. I shall let you go, then, and hope to hear from you soon.

Is the game still open? If so I would rather like to introduce a Cavalier of the Sword by the name of Arnor, and his trusty steed Lupczik. I have them statted up already and willing to email them to someone

We just lost both our martial guys, so feel free. I mean, really.

I'm interested if you would like to post some crunch.

okay, quick question for myself - how big of a problem does this guy have with religion?

I ask because my C.Cleric/oracle died recently keeping one of our former party members that you may replace alive in a pretty charged battle against a really evil guy, and was "raised" by the might of the good Lord Erastil. She's NG, and in terms of standard behavior swings towards C, but pays pretty big homage to the Lawful side of things...

Basically, she's had a really rough time of things lately, and it's her goal to repay Erastil's grace by founding a community based on his ideals. It is something that, at the moment, is very important to her.

And she may come off as a religious nut sometimes. But she's also fun. Is why I have to ask, because we've just lost two players and others are finally settling into our respective roles and becoming more comfortable.

It's not a big issue. For him, if people wish to believe in religion of some kind then that is their issue. So long as he doesn't get preached at overly then he is happy. He believes that the best way of creating good in the world is to lead a decent life, caring for those around you who need assistance and can't protect themselves. I think its called the order of the sword. Need to look it up.

Cool, cool. She's not too preachy. As I said, it's like the Blues Brother's - she's on a personal mission from god to rock the stuffing out of the Stolen Lands. We've been doing a lot of religious stuff lately to show homage to the awesomeness of Erastil for raising the cleric and lending his aide in other pursuits as well, and there is EVIL out there so religion is going to feature prominently as the story develops, I assume.

What sort of role are you looking at taking in the government later? For myself, I am trying to decide between high priestess and diplomat right now. Did not intend to make a diplomancer, but it seems that is where the story is taking my character, and I build based on what's going on in the game.

Oh I see how it is...Erastil gets all the credit and SOMEBODY conveniently forgets that I gave up a portion of my health and life force for you to live but NOOOOO everything is Erastil Erastil Erastil...*goes and pouts in the corner* I get no respect...

;-)

I don't know, like the idea of going either for the Warden or General Role, but then again am not fussy. I have a pretty well rounded character in my opinion, so am looking forward to kicking some butt in the game full stop. Can't promise that I am going to be the most verbose of characters, but I will give it a shot

Are you asking me to cover that somewhere in the 2 weeks we were flitting about exploring? Hermia would have thanked Alaric for that personally, you know, when she calmed down after being dead and nearly had her soul consumed by some insane little girl, and the host of other really heavy stuff that has been going on recently.

I was actually planning on having Puck do it, to try to get him back to the light side of things, till he went down in the first round...

Just realised initially I was going to submit a Paladin. Ok, will make Cavalier and then go and make a Paladin too. Bear with me.

Yeah blame it on the PTSD. All you did was die, it's not like it was permanent or anything. Waaah Waaah I died and had a huge sword shoved through my gut. Boo hoo I lost explorin time! Lets keep our priorities in order here I'm the center of the universe and everything revolves around me! So there!

BTW I am totally messing with you right now lol. Alaric was happy to help and doesn't need thanks. He's just happy you are alive. ;-)

It's a great game with lots of ROLE play. unfortunately I had to back out due to real life constraints. WHomever is chosen make sure you have enough time to read and post daily. Best of luck to applicants.

Hermia will do everything to see that Gideon's dream is preserved, since it is so close to her own.

@ Alaric, I know. We still gotta make that extradimensional candy store. :P

Have rough Paladin made.

The cleric/oracle thanks you for being awesome!

You're welcome! I can't help being so awesome it's a curse. ;-)

It's ok. Paladin is one of the classes I have actually never really tried out before.

Wow, such fun being had over a death, heh. Glad to see you taking it in stride. By the by, as far as front-liners go, what a wonderful odd-couple, a paladin and a mad barbarian, to show up.

Once upon a time when I was DM and playing an uber mage against the party, I used Dominate Person to make the Barbarian kill the Paladin. 'Twas funny

yeaaaah, owl's wisdome and hold person (that's not mind affecting is it) are your best friends

Don't think I'll regret bumping wis to 10 from 7. =/

My wife (the oracle/cleric) has been asking me to make a character for submission. More specifically, a paladin. Since I have played em to death, I made a slightly different approach; meet Haakon of Rostland (character in profile), part helpful teacher, part hedge-apothecary, part warrior of faith and SCIENCE! (Paladin/Alchemist)

Diggin' both concepts. Love the nerd paladin lol

Which concepts are you digging? If you don't mind me asking that is

Oops I didn't mean both, I meant to say all. I like your pally also. One quick question though is whats with the 9 con. Aren't you going to be a bit squishy of a general?

EDIT: Not pally Cavalier sorry. I can't think today apparently lol.

Nah its all tactics. I plan on making sure quite simply that I never get hit. High armour and dex, as well as rings of protection etc mean that I am covered in either case. After all, in order for an enemy to hurt you, he has to be able to hit you first.
