Is there a decent pathfinder replacement for the beholder?

Pathfinder Adventure Path General Discussion

By replacement I don't mean a floating eye creature but instead a creature that can negate magic and also can unleash multiple ray attacks a round?

Edit: Also not a spellcaster class.

Not that I know of. I doubt paizo would so closely mirror the abilities of the beholder any more than they would duplicate its physical form.

Liberty's Edge

On the other hand, there isn't that much difference between a 3.5 statblock and a Pathfinder statblock. So just use the Beholder, unless you're trying to publish something.

they have a free conversion guide pdf in roleplaying game section of site. i think general rule of thumb is tha 3.5 monsters are 1 cr lower then pfrpg (so beholder has cr 11 in 3.5 would be cr 10 in pfrpg).

I agree, no reason you can't just use the 3.5 beastie in PF. Add a CMB and CMD and you are in business ;)

If they decided to include a (severely) cut down version of the gibbering orb, a CR27 creature from the d20 SRD, that would be pretty close.

Just have to cut it down from CR27 to CR13. A minor bit of legendermain, I'm sure :)

Dark Archive

There's also the Eye of the Deep from Tome of Horrors and Legacy of Fire 3.

And the gibbering orb is an excellent example for everything that's wrong with 3E epic rules. 24 powers per round, each requiring a touch attack, that's ridiculous. And its Save DC is 25 at best, so most of the rays won't have any effect.

The Pathfinder Chronicles Podcast guys did a conversion of the Beholder. You can download a PDF of all the monsters they have converted from 3.5e to Pathfinder rules (including the Beholder) here: http://www.d20radio.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=129&t=6516

(Click the link that says "Monster Mash" to download)

I've had a read of their Beholder stats (CR 11) and they look solid.
