Icon disappeared, others work fine

Not a huge deal, so take your time, or if there are community members able to help, that'd be great. A pbp-character's icon is now a blue question mark box, and has been for 2 days... What do I do.

I'm posting with this profile to see if it shows up that way to others.

When I go into my account settings and click "edit" on the profile, the icon appears normally. Also, all of my other profile icons work fine.

You mean the avatar, i.e. the character picture? I can see yours. Some elf with green hair.

If you mean your faction symbol, (like my shadow lodge symbol there), you either don't have one or yours doesn't show at all.

Go flush your browser's cache, that might fix the problem.

That's the suggestion I'd offer, too.

Avatar, yes. I tried that, and just did again, but no luck. Every other avatar works fine, including other peoples', and I can see the avatar fine on my account page. I'm truly puzzled.

I've verified that the image file is in the right place. Here is a link to this image on our regular server.

Here is a link to this image on our secure server. I am guessing that the secure server link works for you but the regular server link does not.

Try holding down the alt key and refreshing the regular server link. That may get your browser to attempt to refetch the image. I think maybe your browser had trouble getting the image once and is not attempting to get it again.

I see the picture and I did not cast invisibility on your avatar image.

Gary Why is the secure server link look smaller but higher resolution than the regular server?

Both links worked fine for me, and the avatar appears above while I am replying to this, currently! It still does not appear on other pages, on that character's profile, or on this page once it has been posted...

No idea, it's the exact same file, 90x90 pixels, no matter which server it's coming from. Maybe your browser is scaling it funny.

I'm going to try changing the avatar entirely, and see if it still shows up broken. Then I'll switch back to see if it helps.

Okay, so no issue with other avatars... Switching back now.

This indicates a problem with the browser's caching of the non-secure version of the image. The profile pages and regular messageboard threads are displayed using the regular server. The create new post page and your messageboards preferences pages are displayed using the secure server.

Any idea what to do about that? I'm not having any other problems with any of my existing avatars, with other avatars, and I didn't have any issues in the past with this one, except the last 2 days. I'm using Safari 5.0.4 if that helps. I don't want to waste everyone's time on this too much, and will just switch to a different avatar if I/we cannot figure it out.

Regardless, thank you all for your time.

Under the Safari menu, choose "Empty Cache..."

I did, twice. I also tried "Reset Safari" to no avail.

I'm kind of stumped. Do you have the same problem with another browser, such as Firefox?

I don't have another browser.

However... as of this morning, the avatars look fine. Some of the icons on the main page (such as star ratings) used to show up as white squares, too, but those work as well. I haven't done anything different on my end, though. Anything to do with when the site was down for goblin-maintenance possibly?

Regardless, thank you immensely for your time.

Nothing we've done should have changed anything. Glad it's working, though!

Me too. I'll just chock it up to gremlins and keep an eye out in case it happens again.
