Held action to move vs. charge

Rules Questions

Barring special abilities, a charge must be made in a straight line.

Could a character (perhaps an opponent of a barbarian using ride-by attack with a really fast mount) ready an action to move just after the character charges, thus taking himself out of the line of the charge, rendering the charge useless?

As was pointed out earlier for this question, you must charge directly towards your opponent - a small but relevant difference.

Yes you can. Ready an action to move 10-15 ft to the left or right when the big crazy fighter charges. However, I have ruled that if you decide to move but are still in the line of the charge the charger can add additional movement to the charge to close that gap, as long as the charger has not run out of movement (I had a player do this once).
