Recruiting - Pathfinder PBP - We Be Mighty Goblins (with MapTools)

Gamer Connection

I have recently played this adventure and I had a lot of fun. I wanted to help share this fun by running the adventure myself. I may also run another short scenario after the module if the players are interested. (Probably end the "campaign" around level 3).

This will be my first time DM'ing a PBP but I have played in several PBP campaigns and I have seen what works and what doesn't.

Based on those experiences, here are the rules I plan to stick by rigidly:
1. Players must post a minimum of once per day, but multiple posts is encouraged.
2. Players who will be unavailable for 1 or more days will need to let me know prior to their departure -- I will NPC them while they are gone.
3. I will NPC characters if I have not heard from them within 24 hours. If I still have not heard from the player in the following 24 hours they will be dropped from the campaign.
4. To facilitate detailed and up to date combat I will be using MapTools.
5. There will be an IC (In Character) thread and an OOC (Out of Character) thread. Please only post in character actions and speech in the IC thread. Speech should be "bolded". For OOC information pertaining to the situation at hand, using the /ooc tags is fine in the IC thread (i.e. Mickey delays his action).
6. I will roll initiatives for all the PC's.
7. I will post initiatives in groups, in relation to the enemy initiatives. (i.e. Group 1: Goofy, Group 2: Evil Bad Lizards, Group 3: Mickey, Minnie, Pluto). When your group initiative is up, you may act in any order.
8. You will need to install Maptools to be able to view the maps. Note: This is my first time using Maptools so there will be a learning curve for me.
9. You must have your character information (character sheet) posted on your profile.

Game Information
Players: Only 4 players will be selected.
Sources: Core Rulebook, Advanced Player's Guide and Goblins of Golarion (No other sources!)
Point Buy: 20 Point buy. Only 1 stat is allowed to be purchased as low as 7 (prior to racial adjustments).
Hit Points: Max at 1st level. All subsequent levels you may either choose to roll your HP or take 1/2 HD +1.
Traits: You may start with 2 traits, and you may also start with 1 trait from Goblins of Golarion. (If you do not have this resource then I will assign you a trait from it which would best fits your character.

House Rules
Attack Fumbles: Any time a 1 is rolled on an attack die, the character must make a Reflex save of DC 5. Failure usually means something fairly bad happens to character or their weapon as determined by the GM.
Critical Hits: Any time you roll a 20 on your critical hit confirmation roll, your critical hit damage multiplier is increased by 1.
Ability Checks: You may “take 20” on an ability check when you may normally only take 10.
Healing: Magic of any type (spells, spell-like abilities and supernatural abilities) which heal a creature are always significantly beneficial in nature. The total of all dice rolled to determine the amount healed, always provide a minimum of half the possible result before any bonuses are added. For example a 1st level cleric casting a cure light wounds spell will confer a minimum of 5 points of healing (half of d8 result is 4, +1 for a 1st level cleric). The recipient heals the better of either the rolled result or the modified minimum result. This rule only affects those that heal from the magic effect. Undead would benefit from this rule when an inflict spell is cast on them, however the damage they suffer from a cure spell is as per the normal rules.
Channelled Energy:Access to positive or negative channeled energy is NOT tied to one's alignment.

To Apply
Post your interest here and include
- your character concept (a full character sheet is not required -- but name, class and alignment are needed)
- a brief character background
- personality description

Lastly, in character, please respond to the following:

1. You find a small human child wandering alone in the forest, what do you do?

2. You have been alone tracking a wild pig all afternoon and finally you have caught up to him. Just as you are about to ambush it you hear a "thwack" sound echo from behind you. One of your goblin chums, Slush Shoot-So-Good has just bullseyed your boar with an arrow. What do you do or say?

3. You are eating dinner. It's horse meat. You love horse meat! You are about to eat your portion when a goblin you have been trying to make "mushy" with for many weeks sits down beside you and says, "You gives me horse flesh and me gives you mushy tonight." What do you do?

dotting interest - I made this goblin for two previous recruitments and still want to get him in the game. They were 20 point buys with two traits as well. Might have to check my 'Goblin Bravado' trait though.

Joboo is a particulary sly and cruel gobbo. He was the runt of a litter of four...or was it three? Momma never missed that one did she? hehehe...dont sleep heavey after taking Joboo's gruel. He quickly learned that might wasnt always right and that his speed and mental prowess were enough to keep him alive and thrive in the gobbo community. He could work with other gobbos but his seriousness sometimes caused problems with the more silly brutes in his village. But that made him perfect for the Mighty Goblins Kings mission.

in character responses

1) ooh! Oi! a wee 'ittle boy! you lost 'ittle one?

Delight shone in Joboo's eyes at the sight of the tender child all alone in the wrong part of the woods...'umanz aint so smart huh?..he slowly walked towards the lad as he scanned the woods for an adult.

dont be scared. Joboo will help you.

Perception - 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

...this one was going to fit nicely in the cookpot and wont Freggles be proud? maybe give me squishy mushy time? hohoho...

The child didnt even notice the dagger Jobbo ran across his throat.

2) The small goblin felt his head where he couldve sworn the arrow nicked him before hitting the boar. And eyed his pal with suspicion.

...maybe Slush miss Joboo...and hit pig on accident?...will be watching Slush now...

Sense Motive - 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

huh! good one Slush! you kill with one shot. earn name right on. we eat good tonight huh?

Jobbo would have to remember how sneaky Slush was let alone how good with damn crossbow he was. He didnt like a gobbo that was sneakier than him.

3) Shivers raced up Joboo's spine when Freggles sat down beside him at dinner.

...hahaha, wont Slush be jealous now? wont he just?...

He looked over the particularly fat gobbo gal and got another set of shivers that kicked start his heart and gave him tingles...uh down there.

Ooh! Oi! Freggles you make deal with Joboo? Horsey meat for squishy mushy time? Deal! hohoho... good deal!

He quickly slides his bowl of fowl smelling flesh and tubers over to the gobbo gal and watches her wolf it down as his hand felt up the fleshy thigh that was half across his under the table. He wasnt too worried about missing a meal. The Ravaging Hunter knew he'd missed enough growing up and squichy mushy time was well worth it.

...heheeh....hahaha....cant wait to tell Slush bout this!...

Your character concept (a full character sheet is not required -- but name, class and alignment are needed):

  • LN Ranger Thakmaka "The Pixie Destroyer" Goblin 'Trophy Hunter'

    A brief character background:

  • Thakmaka is the best Pixie hunter this side of the woods. He delights in hunting down his sworn enemies, and has a long standing grudge against all things Fae. He hunts them for their wings mostly, but still remembers the old wound they delivered to him via treetop.

He wears that 'deadly acorn' around his neck as a reminder that all winged things must die, but Faerie's first of course.

    Personality description
Obsessed, Cunning, and slightly cracked. Thakmaka took a deadly acorn blow from a playful Fae, and has never been quite the same. If it lives in a tree, he hates it, if it can fly, he wants to eat it, but if it has colored wings...it must die. Thakmaka follows his own code, something he usually makes up on the spot, but once a rule is made he sticks to it.

Lastly, in character, please respond to the following:

    1. You find a small human child wandering alone in the forest, what do you do?

Details, what kind of child? it makes all the difference!(I'm assuming Human.) Thakmaka thinks it's a trap of one of the furry tailed kind, the squirrels. Sensing the obvious ruse, he uses his climbing rig (a few rusty nails and some old work gloves ruined by Pine Tree Tar.) to outmaneuver, and out flank this hell beast. Thakmaka can wait all day until it shows it's grey furred form, and wait he does, with a keen eye on the bait and treelines. Danger would be incoming.

Seeing as he has stayed out of sight and ears all day I make good with the friendship and wait until he dragged it (the boar) to a nice place and then kill him. Thakmaka doesn't need more sneaky toes following him and stealing his goods. Better do away with him now, before he does me away later.

    3. You are eating dinner. It's horse meat. You love horse meat! You are about to eat your portion when a goblin you have been trying to make "mushy" with for many weeks sits down beside you and says, "You gives me horse flesh and me gives you mushy tonight." What do you do?

I glare at her lying lips and threaten to bite them off if she don't leave Thakmaka alone. Thakmaka knows when he is being lied too, and if Thakmaka want to make the mushy, he don't need her permission, just her to be there when he say so.

  • Lawful evil, witch

Boil, boil all day long was all hrungee did for his teacher. Today the stew was a lot tastier with the teacher mixed in with it.dis make good spells much gooder! I take his magic and drink it to make my magic most gooder than all others. now i learn all teachers spells and become new head magicer in my clan. Then they all bow down to me and i be top boss too!

Hrungee was sold to this magic user at a young age and has now decided it is time to make all the gobbos pay. He never knew much of his family, but he can boil the hell out of something. He has grand schemes and is a bit more persuasive and intelligent than your avg gobbo.

    in character reposnses

1 moving slowly towards the boy Hrungee opens his arms in a kind gesture Little boy are you lost? Please let Hrungee help you find your way home. Then hrungee will see what else can be had of this little boys other little friends and family, mmmm

2 Turning to slushnow that i found pig you may kill it now. I help you drag it back now and we eat like bosses tonight.

As they are cleaning the pig for dinner somehow slush fell on hrungees skinning knife. strange he fell backwards off the chair rite on to it.

3 i would love to give you my meat my sweet. i already said i would give to that other female there. you show me how good your mushy is and if you do better than other i give you all of mine as well as hers
Hrungee promptly goes over to other girl and gives the same story in reverse order to her.i get lots of mushy and maybe see a good girl fight to boot!!

Thank you to those that have posted characters so far. I am planning to leave recruitment open for 2 more days and will then assemble a party. I have enjoyed all of your responses to the RP questions.

Also, just a note with respect to MapTools. I am only planning to use it to display maps. Players do not need to know how to use it, as it just gives me a quick way to show you the maps.

I don't plan to use any of the other features of MapTools for this adventure.

All the adventure posts and dice rolling will be done in the Paizo forums. The campaign is going to be "Play by Post". The only "live" component will be the map which I will try to keep updated as close to "live" as I can.

I'm thinking perhaps I should not have put MapTools in the thread title because either it seems to be scaring away applicants or the thought of playing a small green evil menace to society is too much for some roleplayers? :)

I find playing the bad guy games way more fun myself. :)

    ^ I couldnt agree more.

In regards to the seemingly low interest; Im shocked. There were plenty of people trying to get into the first couple of games. Maybe be worth going back and seeing who didnt get in and giving them an invite.

Critical Hits: Any time you roll a 20 on your critical hit confirmation roll, your critical hit damage multiplier is increased by 1.

Question: So, how does this work? Weapons already have crit multipliers, so are you saying the crits are bigger in your game? so a pick axe, for example, does x5? instead of x4?

Okay, I am in! I have been wanting to do this for a while now. In an effort to save time for myself and the game...would it be okay if I play Mogmurch? I was thinking about doing the same thing anyways.

Yes, the critical hit modifier increases by +1x, but only if you a roll a "natural" 20 (something I should have clarified) on your "confirmation" roll. This should happen so rarely that it might only occur once during our whole time playing.

Sure I don't see a concern with applying with him. If you plan to change any parts of his personality or background then please indicate so, and also answer the roleplaying questions.

    Applicants so far:

    Joboo - Rogue
    Thakmaka - Ranger
    Hrungee - Witch
    Mogmurch - Alchemist

I will close recruiting tonight at 11:00pm (-7 GMT)(12 hours now from this post).

No cahnges to Mogmurch. I picked up two more traits and now character is ready to fly in profile.

    1. You find a small human child wandering alone in the forest, what do you do?

Answer: "Throw a boom at it!"

Answer: "Das me pigs Slush! Not your pig! You take pig, I shove a boom down your throat!"

    3. You are eating dinner. It's horse meat. You love horse meat! You are about to eat your portion when a goblin you have been trying to make "mushy" with for many weeks sits down beside you and says, "You gives me horse flesh and me gives you mushy tonight." What do you do?

Answer: "No deal! I loves horse fleshes, and I only make "mushy" with Rempty...unless...Rempty say its okay...then we all make "mushy" together!"

Well it looks like we are good to go with you 4 goblins!

    Finalize your character sheets.

As for starting equipment I'm not going to set a price amount, but you can start with any simple or martial weapons you want (non-masterwork).

For armor choices you are limited to leather, studded leather or hide.

    You may choose any shield.

No spiked armor or shields as staring gear.

As for gear, just standard goblin gear. What is standard goblin gear? Well not much of anything. Perhaps a sack or a belt pouch. Maybe some hemp rope.

After equipped, you can add 5 gp to your personal treasure.

When you are ready, please post that you are ready on the OOC thread which I will link to in my next post.

    The OOC Thread is up.

Ah OK, so if you get a possible crit, and then roll a natural 20 on the confirm, the multiplier goes up one more.

    Nice.

    Statting him up today.
