I suspect there will be a press release sometime next week that will detail everything that they've announced, but they'll want to be back in the office before they do that (for example, the name of Carrion Crown was made up just before it was announced at Paizocon/Gencon last year because they forgot the original title...

[Before DDM got canceled, ebay was your friend for finding "LOTS of 10" of a particular mini. (goblins/wolves/zombies/etc.) Now pretty much everything sells for a minimum of $1.50 each with $2-$3 shipping to start regardless of size, it's not buyer friendly anymore. At one point I lucked out and got a lot of 5 Dragonblade Ninjas for $5... now you get 1. :/

Yeah, ebay is a scam - you never get the price you want/think you should pay since one way or another the price is maxed out (know several tricks on how this is done), so I only buy on ebay if I don't care about the price (rare items), never for minis - at least DDM.

Quote:
Reaper's "Legendary Encounters" pre-paints are a major step in the right direction, particularly their kobolds and goblins ($5 apprx. = 3 minis), I've been bolstering my ranks with them. However some of them are ugly (the orcs) and a few of the singles seem a bit overpriced to me for a non-collectible. (gnolls/bugbears/werewolf)

I like these actually, overall I think the quality was better than anything produced under the DDM line - the exception being the special sets (namely the Dragons). The biggest problem is the limited selection available and the fact that they never made larger pre-painted minis or mini sets.

Quote:
Also, the D&D line of Heroscape minis is a cheap way to net a few of the more expensive large minis(Wyvern/Hydra/Lg Red Dragon/Giants) and a grouping of random small/mediums for only $15... and newer ones even have the correct sized bases. (Wyvern & Elementals pack had to be re-based IMO, being slightly larger, but the elementals use the cool transparent plastic.)

Those sets seemed very schizophrenic - sort of a desperate attempt to make some sense from nonsense. Yeah there were a few cool sets - the one with the redone elementals was nice with a Wyvern? Just seemed like a cash-in for older molds (granted they did look better than the originals).

No, a set of 12 mixed goblins, drow, etc - even with a few repeats in the set is DM friendly - it's an attempt to give the DM a product they need vs. buying tons of random blind boosters to build the same (with the same single goblin model over and over again) group of goblins. When I want to buy a product for my game I don’t want to waste my money buying blind.

I'm glad they realized that the random model does not support the RPG side of the game – a little late, but I'm willing to give them a chance and my money if they are willing to fix their mistake.

Hey Paizo, how about a press release after major announcements so that we do not have to go searching for details on the forums?

I'm sure all the announcements will show up in the Paizo blog in the coming weeks. They reward the people who go to Gen Con by letting them have the info early.

The miniatures have a press release, and the Runelords Hardcover has a product page already. More will be added soon I am sure.

Press releases, by definition, are big announcements that go out to the press—that is, the industry's major news outlets. We don't often create press releases for products that are very far away (though if there's a newsworthy product that's coming soon, we may mention a later related product, like the way the Advanced Race Guide rode the Bestiary 3 press release).

Many of the products we revealed at Gen Con are either A) very far off; B) not so newsworthy that they demand a press release; or C) weren't actually formal announcements.

To clarify that latter bit, when we formally announce a product, it gets a product listing on paizo.com, with a price, a picture (usually a mockup) and description, an expected page count, a planned release date, an official product code, and (usually) an ISBN. Some products we mention at conventions ( like Ultimate Equipment or the Shattered Star Adventure Path) are merely informal announcements; those details may not exist yet, and even those that might are still subject to change. So those *definitely* don't get a press release.

When The Forgotten asked about press releases I figured what he really meant was official information. So Paizo Blogs, Product Announcements, and other methods Paizo uses to get the word out.

So not quite ready to make a product page for Ultimate Equipment? Speaking of which, UE had better have a ton more vehicle stats.

I've never had issues with eBay or purchasing single miniatures on-line from other retailers, but you need to pay attention. First, you need to look at shipping cost and whether the shipping cost is per miniature or per order. Second, you have to know the relative value of the miniature.

If you are careful, you can do all right on eBay. However, you can't treat it as a retailer. You need to look at the total price including shipping and determine whether it is a good value. If it's not, wait a couple days and see what new auctions have opened. If you loack patience, you will overpay on eBay.

Well, yeah, I *suppose* so...

But, there's so much more that could be had. And not just from Paizo. It seems like every game company out there is holding information close to the vest, this year. GenCons past they spread information like wildfire.

Well I think we got the normal amount of announcements from Paizo. There does seem to be less coming from some of the other game companies. Other then Weis getting the Marvel license.

I dunno, man. There was a seminar titled "The Future of Paizo" yesterday. Have you heard one peep worth of info out of that seminar? It's killing me.

And WotC should have all kinds of stuff they are announcing, considering the huge amount of changes they made this past year. Nothing from them, either.

Weis getting the Marvel license is news, for sure. Too bad, actually. Mutants and Masterminds is selling really well, and the DC book went a long way toward that. I'm always confused when Marvel refuses to hitch their wagon to the same horses that DC uses. Especially when it was successful.

I *did* hear that Fantasy Flight got the Star Wars license, though, and are planning a Living Card Game for it. That would be huge, if true. That line has been awesome, and Star Wars would blow those numbers through the roof.

Ultimate Equipment was announced at the future of Paizo seminar. So we know all of their releases through Jan 2012 with the AP, RPG, and Campaign setting lines up to June 2012 or later.

Wizards really didn't announce much. Someone has the transcript of their presentation somewhere.

Erm, I'm misrepresenting myself, I think. While product announcements are interesting (I'm a gamer, after all), I'm more after marketing initiatives and company direction. Stuff like the Marvel and Star Wars announcements matter in terms of product sales, but are huge in terms of company direction.

I'll admit that I've heard plenty of stuff that makes me happy. I'm just insatiable. I'm complaining because I want more.

Talking about Shattered Star, Runelords Hardcover, the miniatures line, Ultimate Combat, and all the other newly announced products could easily take an hour or two.

The miniatures line is about the only really bold new thing I would expect from Paizo. I don't think the time is right for a new subscription line. They aren't doing a new RPG (sci-fi or modern or whatever). They aren't ready for epic levels or psionics. So what else is there besides announcing new books?

Well, everything but Ultimate Equipment was leaked before the seminar. I was hoping for something else new on Saturday. :P

Plus, Vic dropped a teaser about something coming up with the Gamemastery Map subscription that still hasn't been explained.

My guess is free PDFs will be added to the subscription soon. That is certainly my hope. ;)

Vic did say their biggest announcement (miniatures) would come just before Gen Con. I'm sure if there was more someone would have spilled by now. Twitter was surprisingly quiet during the seminar though.

I am hopeful that we'll have something to say on that before the next GameMastery Maps subscription item ships. (It was never intended to be a Gen Con thing.)

And for those of you who didn't catch it, the upshot is that if you've ever considered getting a maps sub, *now* would be a very, very good time.

And I can't speak for anyone else, but my reaction to Ultimate Equipment is, who cares? I have Adventurer's Armory and don't see any value in an updated version. In fact, UE is the first Paizo product that I have absolutely no interest in purchasing.

Ultimate Gear should feature two versions of brass knuckles: Bulmahn (APG) and SKR (AA) ;-)

Actually, this issue is pretty much the illustration of the difference between Jason and Sean when it comes to design :)

Though that's the same way I feel about UM and UC. I have the core rulebook, so who cares? (Admitedly, APC is so good I use some classes from it, but otherwise I never understood "Yeah, more splatbooks!")

Actually, I don't mind the Asmodeus paladins - it's an obvious brain fart, and Sean generally writes the deities so well that I am eager to overlook any small glitches. Man, the writeup on Erastil alone is worth gold.

But when it comes to rules design, I can only bang my head against the wall.

Where can I find the paladin of Asmodeus?

Where can I find the writeup on Erastil?

Ultimate Adventurer sounds so much better then Ultimate Equipment. There really isn't much details on UE or talk so I'm curious to see what's in the book. Anyone have more information? I know it has mundane, alchemy item, and magic items. Is it a collection or new material? I hope it's all new material and doesn't collect items from APG/Core.

I'm looking forward to the book it's all new material and maybe just collecting some of the Golarion stuff.

There are no paladins of Asmodeus. Please report to your local vicar's Department of Truthiness for the further Glorification of the Mighty and Hell-Blessed Chelaxian Empire for further instruction.

The Erastil-write up appear in the second volume of the Kingmaker Adventure Path (#32).

"Asmodeus Paladins" was an ooopsie in the Asmodeus article in Council of Thieves. James Jacobs did afterwards post that it should never have happened and that Golarion Paladins are firmly "up to one step from LG deities only".

Erastil is written up in Kingmaker episode "Rivers Run Red". Hands down my favorite deity article, ever.

Based on prior Paizo products, some 30-50% will be recycled material from previous books. That is my biggest single issue with Paizo: I end up purchasing the same material over and over again in different products.

To be fair, they're often quite upfront about it (Gazetteer -> Campaign Setting -> World Guide).

Unfortunately, sometimes they aren't (AA and APG, World Guide and Humans of Golarion). I think I've seen the earth breaker in three products now. Any best on whether Ultimate Equipment makes it four? :P

I'm really content with the line up for next year.

I'll finally get a book with all of the player races fleshed out as well as a system to create balanced races from scratch. And just in time for me to start working on a certain science fantasy space opera game/campaign that I've been wanting to run for ages.

I'll also get a book that has all the mundane, alchemical and magic equipment into one place. I hope they include rules for designing new alchemical items and maybe a system for magic item creation that doesn't require a doctorate degree to understand and implement. However, I'd be happy with just having all the loot in one place.

I plan on starting my AP subscription up with Skull and Bones so some info on what to expect after that is nice.

I'm looking forward to the RotRL update. It will make for a great summer campaign. I was already going to pick up the Shackled City hardback and track down the pieces of Age of Worms since I still have some friends who only play 3.x.

I think I'm gonna need a bigger bookcase.

Making demands or implying that you can even come close to demanding something of a company like Paizo makes me truly laugh. The common misconception "that the customer is always right" is a statement that people think that they can do anything or say anything to anyone in a position in sales or that works in the face of the public. It is simply not true. People that work with the public deserve as much respect and common courtesy as anyone else.

There for if you asked for more vehicles you might actually get some more.. but saying there had BETTER be more.. well... good luck with that.

Having most of the Paizo Books both Hardcover and splatbooks, I guess I do not see what you do. the material is refreshing and unique for the most part with one or two exceptions and the major one being the Inner Sea Guide. This was mostly a revision of the campaign guide and was mostly rehashed material, it was necessary because all the material contained in the first campaign guide was ALL 3.5 and not Pathfinder.

The other exceptions are any revisions and updates from the Adventure Paths such as the Bestiary's at the like from them and then some corrections (minor) from other books.

So other then what I mentioned... what the heck are you talking about??

Perhaps I could have worded it better. I was expressing what I wanted to see in such a book. As a loyal subscriber, I like to give feedback to Paizo about which books I like and dislike. I wasn't coming anywhere near saying I'd unsubscribe if UE did not include vehicles. I simply wanted to say that the game needs more vehicles and UE would be a logical place to put them.

If anyone at Paizo thought I was making demands, I apologize.

TSR was the worst with that. In the days of the Volo guides, and all of their big box regional sets of the forgotten realms, they would just REPRINT passages completely. MANY MANY of their campaign products were new reprints of the reprinted material from last years reprint.

Paizo is MUCH better than the folks at TSR were about this!

This shouldn't be too hard I'd think. I was just noticing that both Ultimate Combat and Ultimate Magic don't have new magic items (except a few for firearms). That leaves a lot of new rules space that hasn't had magic items published for them. Not to mention all of the other stuff that could be in a nice big hard cover like this. I'm hoping for more rules crunch for non-magic items, similar to some of the things from AA like for whetstones, masterwork backpacks, etc.

I finally got a chance to skim through UC and I really like what I see. I would absolutely like to see more vehicles AND a system for building your own or modifying the stock models in Ultimate Equipment. I would really like to see some blueprints/deckplans (maybe for the GameMastery line?) of airships and other large vehicles.

If Distant Worlds hit in Feb of next year and Ultimate Equipment comes out sometime in the summer then I'll be finally be able to start that Spelljammer: The Rock of Bral campaign that has been boiling on the backburner for awhile now. First is Forgotten Realms Classic: Skullport and then Spelljammer. So many campaigns and so little time.
