Someone in the Ultimate Combat thread lamented that the magus is too uniquely wizard-based (Int for casting, spellbook etc.). That's true, but there are some ways to make a sourcerous or witchy magus.
A great sorcerer-based magus is the Cabalist from New Magus Arcana, a perfect spontaneous-casting bloodlined magus who doesn't need any improvement. Good work, people!
A witch-based magus appeared in the same Ultimate Magic volume, and this is the Hexcrafter. However, I felt that this one could be done a little better for flavor. This is a complementary archetype I made for that purpose.
Witch Knight
Some magi are trained from witch covens to defend and protect them, and their spells & abilities are more natural and wild.
Magus' Familiar:The witch knight receives his first arcana at 1st level, and this must be Familiar. He receives the Spell Combat ability at 3rd level. The witch knight doesn't receive an arcana at 3rd level. A witch knight's familiar stores spells and otherwise behaves as a witch's familiar.
Bewitched Arcana: The witch knight receives access to the following arcana. Moreover, if he chooses the Jinx Blending arcana (from New Magus Arcana), he can add the selected spell to his list as a spell of the same level. If the witch knight chooses the Spell Blending arcana, the selected spell is added to his list as a spell of a level higher.
Bewitched Strike (Sp): A witch knight magus can cast his patron spells using the spellstrike ability, even if they aren't touch-attack spells.
Greater Spell Access: At 19th level, the witch knight gains access to an expanded spell list. He learns and places 14 spells from the witch’s spell list into his spellbook as magus spells of their witch level. He gains two of each of the following witch spells not on the magus spell list:
0-level, 1st-level, 2nd-level, 3rd-level, 4th-level, 5th-level, and 6th-level.
He can ignore the somatic component of these spells, casting them without the normal chance of spell failure.
Spells: The witch knight chooses a witch patron at 1st level and adds the patron spells of 6th level or lower to his magus spell list, if they're not on it.
Magus Arcana: The following magus arcana complement the witch knight archetype: broad study, dispelling strike, empowered magic, and jinx blending.
So... Witch Knight + Hexcrafter = All-Round Witch-Based Magus! ^___^
