Captain America... Help me build a Barbarian Hurler with a shield

To add some fun in a kingmaker campaign i'd like to make a NPC who is copying some of the attributes of the First Avenger.
I was thinking along the line of a Barbarian hurler/Invulnerable rager with the equipment trick feat with shield from Adventurer's armory.
He'll be around the level 7 to 9 range with a +1 returning shield and should be helping a bit my PCs in the Varnold Vanishing book.

I am thinking Human for the extra feat.
I 'd probably go with raging vitality, reckless abandon as some rage powers and power attack or combat reflex, lunge and precise shot
As I am quite a starter at creating optimized build, I'd really like your help with the build (and potential extra equipment for that level).
For initial trait, shield bearer from humlan of golarion should be interesting ( making him a Ulfen)

Using a thrown weapon like this would almost require the vital strike feat, sense you will not be getting extra attacks anyway.

Do you plan on him being more melee or range?

Probably more range appart from when he'll give the shield bonus to an ally... I am thinking he needs to be quite mobile to get in the best position to throw his shield or to protect an ally and soak a lot of damage

Couple of thoughts:
how would a fighter compare to that?
I'd probably look at a melee version of this for a more "in your face" attitude .

hmm I think I got the equipement trick thing wrong, I still need to take the feat thrown anything as hurling lesser doesn't give it to me. Back to square one


Barbarian makes it tougher. The Weapon and Shield style Ranger gets Shield Master at 6th level, which is pretty awesome. If I were building Captain America, I would do a Weapon and Shield Ranger then break off Ranger and go for Stalwart Defender, maybe splash Barb at level 7 for fast movement.


I found this idea interesting, so I thought I'd try my own hand at it.

Rather than Barbarian, or even Ranger, I went with a Shielded Fighter. I give him a +1 Returning Heavy Mithril Throwing Shield, and a nice suit of armor... though I think if you wanted to keep the visual theme, it'd be more appropriate to go with Studded Leather, maybe Hide.
