DM's call. Evolutionarily speaking they're closer to birds than they are to Crocodiles.

I'd probably go with just dino's.
Anything under 'reptilia' (which also includes 'aves' but for game purposes probably doesn't)?
And the only reason reptilia doesn't include US by monophyly is because of the creation of an arbitrary group . Ahhh.. human centrism rears its ugly head in science yet again...

Hi folks we are getting ready to play in a few hours and it just dawned on me that im not sure if these guys speak with lizards or just dinosaurs. I cant find anything official. Thanks a bunch.
*begins lengthy scientific lecture.*
The problem is the rules are really loose on what types represent. In Linnaean taxonomy a raven can talk with everything in the same class, Aves (birds). For a monkey this is restricted to the class, primates (Technically, infra-order as the writers used the more restrictive simians or higher primates [poor little lemurs get no respect]). For a lion, instead of being the class Mammalia (mammals) or the order Carnivora (carnivores), the 'type' shrinks to only include family, Felidae (felines). So, what does this tell us (beside that the developers aren't biologists).
It tells us look beyond the literal scientific justifications and go with what feels right. I would say the 'type' in this case is dinosaurs, they are definitely distinct enough from reptiles and birds to warrant their own 'type.' This 'type' is hardly any more restrictive than bats or cats.

Bah! Compy familiars should talk to ravens and eagles and not to boring old stegosauruses!
