Crossbow reach / ranged

I am having difficulty finding a rule for a ranged attack with a crossbow. I remembered reading something about not being to shoot an enemy who is in an adjacent square using a bow/crossbow, but can't find it anywhere...

You can shoot an enemy that is adjacent you just provoke an attack of opportunity when you do so.

To the best of my knowledge Crossbows do not suffer the same Reach penalties as "Reach" weapons, however they do provoke AoO's if fired in Melee Combat range. So keep your distance as a general rule.

Now I know there is an Attack of Opp when "loading;" is this the same as "attacking?"

Loading and attacking are two separate actions with a crossbow, both of which provoke.

Loading and attacking are both done as part of the same action with a bow, and only the attacking provokes.

Here is a helpful table
