Dear, Paizo do you offer your rule books with out the dying fighter art? I am in love with your, products just not the artwork. I am trying to get my boys involved in role playing and am looking for more melee friendly covers. I don't want my boys to be exposed to dying mortally wounded fighters (or being dragged off to his death, and seriously Merisel fighting beetles while Valeros has to deal with THREE wererats??). I understand the market you are going for and I am not judging you at all I just am not a proponent of "heroic deaths" and was wondering if you have alternate covers? Also it doesn’t help to show Valeros with a medium melee weapon and a small one, it is really screwing up the kids feat selections

I don't mean this to sound snarky, but how old are your boys?

If seeing people attacked by wererats and beetles is too much for them, then maybe they need to be a little older or more mature before starting a RPG. Pathfinder will prbably be about fighting icky things and their characters may die.

This is probably a troll, but I'd still nominate it as a post of the year.

Or post of the month.

Agreed on both parts. It's succinct and to the point yet isn't the sort of thing anyone can get offended about without wanting to be offended. It says what many of us - myself included - would like to say, only with style. Two thumbs up.

Well played, sir. Well played indeed.

Excuse me? None of the covers break PG-13 ratings. They might be in some bad situations but I never have seen any actual blood in the artwork.

Also, Valeros is a two-weapon fighter. He wields a medium longsword and a medium shortsword.

I would like to add my concerns about the obvious racial stereotyping of Dwarves as beer guzzling homicidal axe wielding maniacs, a lot o Dwarves prefer rum and warhammers. Also the portrayal of Dwarves as dour and mirthless and have very little in the way of culture. I will have you know that Dwarves have opera (that makes the ring cycle look like a 3 min pop ditty). Dwarves also have a stand up circuit that would make George Carlin blush.

So I ask that paizo show some sensitivity and stop their racist portrayal of Dwarves.

In before Ross.

For those who don't get it. He's claiming offense at the portrayal of the iconic fighter, and how often he's dying or getting overwhelmed in the various art, as opposed to all the iconics for other classes. Not offense at the depiction of blood or being attacked.

Also, he claims that he's offended by the suboptimal creation of said iconic fighter, what with being both TWF and using two different kinds of weapons for it, says it's influencing his players to make actively bad feat selections.

It's partly trolling, and partly protesting how melee martial builds are at the bottom.

Actually he's parodying the "Pathfinder covers w/o sexy art" thread., and how some people in America have an issue with sexual images or topics but not violence.

Now if he talked about Dungeons Iconic Paladin getting chewed up, that would be valid.

Ah, Poe's Law. When the parody becomes indistinguishable from the object of parody.

I'm fully aware of the other "Pathfinder covers" threads. However, his parody is not one wherein he protests violent art, but one where he protests fighter-fail art.

Grand Lodge

I think he's just mocking the other post.

Sarcasm is hard to pull off on a written medium. Good job!

Heh. At 200+ posts, I hadn't even bothered to look a the other thread, but had just assumed that is was a request for image-free PDFs (for iPads and such)...so it took a bit further down this one before I caught on. :)

Very bad taste. Whether or not you disagree with a father's priorities or how he wants to protect his children, and I do agree I don't agree with it either, it is in no way acceptable to use it to attack with your own views because it is silly in your minds. The arrogance of trying to "educate" and belittle someone into your own outlooks goes back to the elementary school playground.

Shameful kids.

Hey, why don't you just let the meatshield do his job? If he didn't want the damage, he wouldn't be armed and armored that way. And for the record, those are roaches, not beetles.

Hmm parody seems to have a long history when dealing with "political" issues. Freedom of speech is protected in the constitution and the fact the paizo is being attacked for publishing "sexy" artwork rubs me the wrong way. The original thread even uses the term art! One can argue that risque art is a trope of fantasy and hence RPGs. Frazetta would be rolling over in his grave if what Paizo publishes is considered scandalous. There are lots of game systems and if the artwork of anyone one type is too much use your wallet and pick another damn game system.

Speaking of schoolyards, isnt that where you rely on adults to control acceptable behaviour? Please , your comment concerning arrogance is itself arrogant and smacks of the officious school student reporting to the principal. My 'bad taste' expresses what I think is an important point and I stand by it.

ps Fighters still die too much in the Paizo art!

Ah, so yours is parody while his was an attack? Glad you cleared that up for me, because here I was under the mistaken impression that his was a mere honest inquiry while yours was an attack on the other poster.

My heat here is that I just don't want to see Valeros getting kicked anymore! The poor guy always on the front line preventing the other low-hp/AC party member from getting hurt and he's always shown all broken and mangled and the other non-warrior party members all heroic and saving poor Valeros's life... NO FAIR!

Power to the Fighter! :D

It's a 3.5 continuity issue.

Paizo are carrying on an honourable tradition.

Maybe the poor shmuck just needs a better AC.

Seriously arn't the hit point sponges supposed to do that, they get mangled, beaten, ripped apart, spindled, folded AND mutilated because they are built to take it.
They do have the best hit dice and the best armor options so why wouldn't they do their job?
My spellcasters are always in the rear with the gear while the fighter was up front distracting the huge dino skeleton. The fighter did like 7-12 points of damage the whole battle(low roles the player couldn't hit for crap) the rest of the party(cleric,wiizard,sorcerer,druid/wizard and theif) were doing anywhere from 20-30 points in a round with our spells and summoned creatures but we couldn't have IF the fighter hadn't been there to be the target. He took over 60 points of chompage which would have killed any of the rest of us but only NEARLY killed him. End result was fighter=target, spellcasters=support/damage, end result of teamwork and everybody doing their part....We ALL survived.
