"Good advice is often an unwelcome friend. And it's a wise man who knows his limits." Avarthiel sounds like he is quoting someone.

Dantes tilts his head at the phrasing. Talental Stronghelm? Odd quote for a non-dwarf to reference.

Gan will listen to Kythas apology. "I will not hold it against you. I too apologize. I almost lost my temper myself." Gan looks back to Krysta. "I'm sorry you had to see that. I'm still interested in your story if your willing to share.

Kystra also greets Avarthiel and nods kindly at the suggestion to speak in common.

In common with a heavy elvish accent, "This would make a good opportunity for me to practise common. Most of what I have learnt is from books and the occasional traveller in our town."

"I guess you could say I have lived a sheltered life. I never knew my human mother as she passed giving me birth. My step-mother insisted that I be raised as true as any other elven child. I certainly did my best to be the best elf I could, but there are other dimensions to my soul that I am only starting to understand."

"Recently my father revealed to me that my human ancestory is Azlanti. I really didn't know anything about them, and once I started to research them I became fascinated with my human heritage. I feel an inner calling to reconnect with my ancestors so I am in search of more knowledge of them and perhaps someday hope to travel to some Azlanti ruins."

Watching the spectacle caused by Kythas simply brings a smile to Kystra's face followed by a slight giggle. Quitely and calmly she watches as events unfold.

Gan nods to Kystra. "That is fascinating. I see we have a lot in common. My mother too was human. I get really sensitive when people talk ill of the woman who gave up a normal life to raise an outcast such as I. I only wish I could have done more for her. But that is behind me and the memory only gives me strength. So you say you decent from the Azlanti? Very interesting. I've never been to the region myself but I have heard a few stories. It sounds like an interesting place to be sure. What has your research uncovered so far?"

Kystra sighs, "Sadly, very little. It seems for most sages what is common knowledge is that the Starstone destroyed the island home of the Azlanti, and killed nearly all of them. The rest have been scattered about Golarion. Some texts I have read even eluded to Azlanti as being the ones responsible for bringing down the Starstone. It certainly is something I would like to research more though. There are several areas along the west and north coasts where the Azlanti first settled after the destruction of their island. I would really like to study any ruins they may have left behind, so I thought it would be prudent to start southmost in Sargava and eventually work my way around the coast."

"This was a difficult decision for my father to accept of mine. He is a very practical and logically minded elf. Alas, he gave in and said that my mother's courage and determination runs strong in me. However I have always felt a certain emptiness in my soul, and I believe it has something to do with my Azlanti heritage. Hrmm, I suppose that might sound a little silly, but its the best way I can describe the feeling."

"Journey backwards to take your first step. Not silly at all. I too have long wanted to see the fabled Azlanti ruins. Though not for any such, ah, genealogical reason as you, Kystra."

Avarthiel turns to Dantes - leaving Gan and Kystra to continue thei conversation. "No need to apologise on anothers behalf. We've all seen what you crewmen have done to pull us safely through the storm. Thank you."

Loving this.

I wanted to give a minor update: the recruitment will end tomorrow, as planned. I won't start the reviewing process until Friday however, as I am DMing a Pathfinder game in real life tomorrow as well. The soonest this group will be up and running will therefore be Saturday, though it may be Sunday depending on several factors.

At this rate, I'm frightened that the actual AP won't be as exciting, heh.

With a nod of appreciation, Dantes says It was our duty. To Kystra, he'll add You may be surprised what you can find. Travelling south may be a good way to find some of that history, but it can be all around you. I spent a couple seasons in a small fishing village on the Inner Sea. One day while bringing in a haul, I noticed some strange etchings on a brick in the side of someone's home. When I asked around about it and studied it, I found out that there were some old Azlanti ruins nearby, but now they were completely gone. The locals, in the course of living their lives and not appreciating the historical value, took the ruins apart, stone by stone, to use in their own houses, docks and fences. At first, I was upset, thinking of what had been destroyed. But then it dawned on me that it was the natural way, to build on what your forefather's have left. Dantes stops short, realizing he's rambling. Your pardon. This broth must be going to my head. I guess what I'm saying is, I respect your personal quest, and I hope you find answers in the most unexpected places, and in the most unexpected ways. He falls silent, again staring off in the direction behind the ship.

Gan nods in agreement with Avarthiel. He then turns his attention back to Kystra. "I agree, it is not silly. In fact, if you ask me I say it would be a grand adventure. I am an explorer at heart myself and have ventured through many territories. I am currently on the Jenivere myself to learn more about the world. Honestly your story intrigues me. If you are willing, I'd would happily lend you my skills as a guide. Adapt quickly too many terrains and am good with maps and Directions. I could help you. Finding this lost city could be just the kind of uplifting experience I need. I've been kind of down since my mother passed. I would like some company as much as adventure for sure. So what say you? Would you accept my company on your journey?"

At Dantes' first mention of finding some evidence of Azlanti ruins, Kystra looks very excited. As Dantes continues, Kystra's long smile quickly fades. As Dantes finishes, Kystra remarks, "Thank you for sharing that with me, and your wisdom. Stories like that do indeed give me hope of finding some and I will remember your wise words should I also find similar destruction of ruins."

"Oh goodness, I had not at all expected to find anyone interested in this journey. My travels so far have been rough and living a somewhat sheltered life in the Whisperwood did not well prepare me for the journey. I would greatly appreciate having a seasoned adventurer and guide to accompany me. I can already feel the curse upon my soul starting to lift as we approach these lands. Thank you so much for your kind offer Gan!"

Gan smiles at the thought. "Then I'd say we have ourselves a journey. I must admit, when I left home I wasn't sure exactly what I was expecting to do. It would seem fate or the gods have brought us to this point. I look forward to discovering the secrets of Azlanti myself." Look at Kystra for a moment, musing. "You say your a half-elf but your accent is spectacular. My father tried to get me to act like a proper elf too. I became fluent in the language but I must say it sounds so much better when I hear it from you. You mentioned before that you were raised elven. When did you start to study Common?"

Both Lilly's and Eyeball's ears perk up when the dissension hits the group drinking at the rail a short distance away. She is afraid there will be blood spilled, but after a minute things settled down again. So she returned to lobbing mushy fish-heads to Eyeball. He never tired of this game.

It is strange how these people seem to gravitate towards each other. They are strangers, yet something pulls them together. I would enjoy what that feels like. If I only didn't look like this, I might know that closeness of kin. At least animals judge me upon my soul, not my looks.

She then looks wistfully at the group again, as they get excited about something, and smile and talk excitedly. Then as suddenly as it came her mood disappeared, as Eye-ball misjudged his distance from the water and hit it at an awkward angle tumbling over several times, before righting himself and struggling back into the air...with a coconut in his mouth instead of the fish head.

Lilly wrote:

"I believe he thinks he is one of us, and get's frustrated because we can't fly".

"Heh, sometimes I get frustrated that I can't fly too. Would make my search all the more easy that I could."

Qualin takes Lilly's offered hand in a firm but not over-powering grip. His hands like the rest of him are covered well, them in calf skin riding gloves dyed a blue that matches his breezy cloak.

Lilly wrote:

"Looks like they're having a good time",She says in a lower voice, though I never can understand why they need poison in small quantities to laugh and talk together".

"Wine, rum, ale, all just lubricants for the mind and tongue, though lately I stand more to your side of the matter. The talk is rarely of much worth, and the headache afterward is a higher cost than I'd like."

He accepts the soiled sling and lodes the head.

Lilly wrote:

"I like your mask by the way". "Some of our Shaman's wear masks, but they're not...

"Thank you, it's been in my family at least one generation before I took it up. My father wore this mask at sea many years ago, and I wear it now that he might recognize it and know me, were we to cross each others paths." He says while twirling the sling...letting it go a second later sending the morsel into a high arc.

Noting the commotion amongst the others Qualin's hand instinctively goes to an empty space on his belt, as if generally a weapon hung there, correcting his grab his hand rests on the hilt of a dagger while observing the drunken elf being sent off below decks.

"The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom..." He mutters to himself. "Or so we hope while traveling its ways."

Recruitment is now officially closed. Keep the roleplay going, though. As mentioned previously, today I won't have time to look over the applications.

Avarthiel's keen elven ears twitch slightly as he half hears a familiar proverb. Then he turns back to his conversation with Dantes. "So, are you a sailor for life or would you ever consider another line of work?"

Dantes smiles at Avarthiel's question. What line of work wouldn't I consider? I grew up rather privileged, learning about the world abroad from books, scrolls and tutors. After some decades of that, things… changed. For me. I set out to see the world, and have been working my way ever since. It would seem that “citizen of the world” was not the best profession to stay in favor of the Goldforge elders. So I’ve done this and that. It’s been three seasons as a sailor, another couple as a fisherman, a tailor, a leatherworker, a beekeeper, a baker, a brewer, a miller, a miner, several seasons as a shepherd, a woodsman, a cook… Well, I shan’t bore you more than I already have. But yes, I’m certainly willing to take on new things. As long as I can learn more, and hopefully leave a place and its people a bit better than when I came, I call that good.

Dantes glances around the gathered group. How about all of you? This is usually more of a cargo run, less a passenger run. What brings you this way? Setting up an elven outpost, perhaps?

After a long and tedious process, I have selected the five adventurers whose journey through the Mwangi expanse we will follow. I apologise for those of you who weren't picked:

Lilly, the half-orc Druid;
Kythas, the elf Ranger;
Avarthiel, the elf Wizard;
Kystra, the half-elf Oracle;
Dantes, the dwarf Monk;

Please report in the OOC and Discussion Thread.

To the rest of you, I thank you for your participation, and wish you the best of luck. If you need a recommendation from me in another recruitment topic, feel free to give me a poke. The level of applicants this time was outstanding.

Was there something wrong with my character? I'm just curious why I keep missing out. This makes no. 11 that I have not been accepted to. I would appreciate any advice.

The biggest deciding factor was that there were three rangers on the application list. I admit, it's a peeve of mine to have more than 1 of the same class in any given group, and in this case it edged you out.

There was nothing wrong with your character. Your roleplaying was good - a few grammatical slips here and there, but nothing major.

I apologise once more.

I see. Thank you. I try harder next time. I though t if I posted enough it would work

Now I feel bad.

Keep it up. I'm starting a Jade Regent recruitment topic when the AP is released - I hope you'll apply for that.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep trying.

Kystra prepares herself for the adventure that lies ahead, yet a slight tear forms in the corner of her eye as she is forced to say goodbye to Gan.

Do keep trying Shanosuke. The first game is hardest to get into, and after that it seems to be easier. As DM Patcher said there was nothing wrong with your role-playing at all. Good luck next time.
