Brew Potion and Magic User Dying

Rules Questions

1. how much does it cost to brew the potion of "Cure Light Wounds".
Also, what are you spending the actual gold on as that spell has no material component?

2. What happens to magic users spells if they are active when the magic users goes to negative hit points and is dying? Do they automatically dispell?

Grand Lodge

1a. Spell level 1 x caster level 1 x 50gp / 2 = 25gp minimum, or you can brew it at a higher caster level, up to your actual CL, for extra cost.

1b. Brewing a potion is not the same as casting a spell. It requires various magical ingredients, part payment towards lab equipment (see the prices for Water Clocks and Spyglasses for an idea of what advanced crafts cost) and so on. If the spell had an expensive material component you'd have to pay for that in addition.

2. Nothing happens to a magic-user's spells if he falls unconscious, or if he dies, unless a specific spell requires him to concentrate to maintain it. Otherwise they continue to operate until their durations expire.

Where are you getting your math from? According to chart on pg 551, it would be 50gp to brew.

I figured it out. Your right. The table at the top of that page should be renamed to Potion Base Price (By Brewer's Class). Then the little footnote at the bottom of the table would make so much more sense. "The cost to create a potion is half of the base price."
