Community Use Policy regarding maps and Play By Post

Paizo General Discussion

So whats the use policy regarding maps and pics from modules and the like? Say I was running a module for a play by post, and wanted to show my players the map of the room they were in for a combat or what have you, is it ok to post these on a image hosting site, if I do the whole copywrite and all that? like Lets take the rise of the runlelords ap for example, The map of Sandpoint and lets say room one of Thistletop....

You may not use any photographs published in the blog (because those rights are usually not ours to offer). You may not use artwork, including maps, that have not been published in the blog, although you may create your own interpretations of material presented in our artwork and maps, provided that your interpretations don't look substantially similar to our materials.

Note that the Community Use Policy is about *public* redistribution of our content.

We understand that GMs often need to share materials with players, and as long as you do so in a non-public fashion, that's fine. So if you put those maps where only your players can access them (and nobody else in the entire world), and you make sure your players are aware that they are not allowed to redistribute them, then we don't have a problem with that.

Ok, I just wanted to make sure not to step on toes and abide by the policy. So it would be ok if it were in a private facebook group or something that only the players could view? Cool Thanks!

I store images in a hidden directory on a non-role-playing website that I run, and link to them directly from the game thread in question.

I suppose an extremely determined delver could find them other than my players, but it's unlikely.

If this is deemed unacceptable, I can change this to a password-protected area on yet another of my sites and give my players access, but it would introduce an extra layer of hassle for both them & me.

I think if someone were to go through that much trouble to pirate images, theyd most likely just pirate the source since its probably easier...

Can anyone access the game thread, and thus the images? If so, that's not ideal.

Also, you may want to verify that Google and other search engines aren't indexing areas of your site that you think are private.

How is storing them on windowslive and only allowing access to "friends"? I recently was shown windowslive, so I don't know how secure it is...

I know nothing about it.
