I'm probably far from the best resource for this question, but i like the idea that Paladins would be spontaneous casters. Though I'd make them choose spells known like other spontaneous casters.

I agree, but there's archetypes for both if you want to remove your spellcasting.
My problem with making them choose is there isn't a precedent for a spontaneous caster who only gets 1-4. At least with 0-9 or 0-6 I have examples to base off of. And as I said, they really don't have that long or powerful of lists anyways.
usually spells known to spells per day you have about 2 more spells known over the amount of spells you can cast. Though bonus spells make it so you can cast all of your spells known at least once if your spell casting stat is high enough. So Id say prolly have them know like 1 or 2 more spells of each level that they can cast more than their spells per day.

As long as you are willing to do the necessary tweaking, I don't see a problem with it at all. Give it a try and see how it goes!

I have given Ranger and Palidians 2 ways to go
1 same as allways pick each day huge list CORE, APG, CM, SPlat book, ect
2 Cast any thing from CORE as a list caster ie Warmage in 3.5
