After a no-doubt delicious meal (what did we have?), William will go around Oleg's and buy some last-minute supplies. Among them, he asks for a bedroll, a lantern, some oil, some rope, some writing materials, a waterskin, and a few more day's worth of trail rations. He goes about stowing these on the back of the horse he picked out, a chestnut mare he has taken to calling "Brownie". It looks almost as if William did not pack for a long-term adventure.
Oleg, are you interested in buying what the bandits had?
Another thing looks like it is bothering William. They said they took the sixth horse from someone down the road. Should we return her?
Let us deal with these bandits as soon as we possibly can. Fortune and Milani willing, we will have much more time for exploring what the Greenbelt has to offer.
If there are no objections, shall we get on the road?
Finally, an optimization point. William has no problem with Chiron making the maps, but if it requires a roll to do it, is the check Knowledge Geography? If so, William has a higher modifier, perhaps he could give it a shot?
I would use a Knowledge:Geography for keeping a map, but to remake the map you shall make it will be a Profession:Cartographer roll.

Naen nods in agreement. "Yes. Let us be direct. As for the extra horse, perhaps Oleg should hold it here. We can watch for its owner on the road and direct them here, should we come across them. If we take the horse and do not find its rightful owner, it may be a burden in our travels."

Okay, so to make a map, we use Knowledge Geography, and to copy it, we use Profession Cartographer? What happens if we fail one of these checks? Do we have a crappy, unusable map?
William Flynn
Excellent, Oleg. Then we have one horse, five longbows, and five swords to sell.
That's assuming nobody wants any of that. We'll also just assume they took a longsword from the guy up the road. The haul should be... [(75x6)+(15x3)+(10x2)]/2, or 257.5 gp. Split five ways, we can all take 51.5 gp.

Since most people are low level I am assuming taking 10 will take care of both unless you want to roll for RP purposes just to have a chance to get it wrong. I am down for either method.
I am also suggesting we clear the hex as we are exploring so we don't have to come back to it.As to the actual kingdom building are we going to leave it in the background, micromanage it, or make decisions like rulers would and have Erefine just give us the results of our decisions.
As an example he might give us the choice between focusing on education or building up the nation's defense. Another example is that someone commits a crime and we decide how to handle that situation which would in turn effect how we are viewed as rulers.
Should we have this discussion in the discussion thread?
William Flynn
Onward! To adventure! If no one objects, William mounts Brownie and heads for the grove.
Edit: I would definitely like a kingdom discussion thread, for when we get that far. It would be good to have it all in one place, separate from our in-game/adventuring actions. I would save that, though, until we get into our characters a bit more, and know what we would do in those situations. Not to mention, start having those situations.

Naen, having just gotten some semblance of control over her horse, follows after William.
"Milani bless our journey. May we be carried swiftly and safely."
I also like the idea of a separate discussion thread specifically for kingdom management, when the campaign reaches that point.
Chiron
Separate Discussion thread would be very helpful.
Glad to be underway, Chiron gallops to the head of the collumn with William.
"It will be a fair while to get to this grove. Shall we map as we go?
Chiron pulls out his cartographer's kit and, calling William to his side, begins mapping out the wilderness.

Just a heads up for everyone: I just bought my first house! As such, I will be moving over the next week or two. I will still have access to my laptop and I can sometimes post at work. That said, I may be a little less frequent in posting. I will definitely get in one post per day and will strive for more. Just thought ya'll ought to know.

" Shall we map as we go?

Let's do so. I can help with whatever you need. Say, look at that tree. William urges Brownie ahead to an odd-looking tree, where he canters around and looks at it closely.
The tree in question seems to have grown out of a massive boulder. The roots extend around the rock, snaking into the ground below. Several low-hanging branches present themselves, making it look like a temping tree to climb, for those so inclined. Beautiful, in its own way... William stares up the tree wistfully, then returns to the line next to Chiron.
Carmichael Korvus
Finding a naughty white horse munching on crab apples, Carmichael attempts to ride it, but his saddle slides sideways and the beast bucks him against a tall oak. "Think I'll call you Dinner."
He then judiciously leapfrogs onto the back of the mount and near gallops towards the questing party, upon procuring a few cooking supplies which reverberate softly against the horse's stomach. "Aye, this is the direction Shard spotted the grove. He saw no trouble, but plenty of delicious grubs."

Sorry for the absentie here. Yes I will create an out of character site for kingdom management issues. On vacation and the internet has been shotty due to bad weather. Chiron congrats on the new house.
Ok so you set off to the southeast looking for the bandit camp yes?
Can I get some perception rolls for the two trackers?
As you head to the southeast you all are getting very comfortable riding and are making good time. The scenes seem to pass by in a blurr.
William Flynn
Yes, we are looking for the bandit camp that Happs mentioned, the one that is supposed to have more bandits to rid the area of.
Perception:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
William sighs deeply as he takes in the cool air of early spring (Why not?). He gazes around in a general manner, drawn to sights of nature at its most beautiful. As they approach the grove that Shard saw, he delights in the sense of purpose derived from their mission. Not all days will be this good, he reflects, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy them.

Eager to make conversation, William regards his traveling companions. What did everybody do before they responded to the charter? While we seem excellent marksmen, I'm sure we have other talents. Perhaps now would be a good time to enumerate them.
I just graduated from a military academy. It seems hobgoblins are not welcomed in the military so my paperwork was "missing", and I was "advised" to just take an honorable discharge. I spent the next year hunting in the forest, but not being much of a hunter I eventually had a target range setup just before the charter was brought to my attention.
While I never became a good hunter I did learn to move around pretty well without being noticed(stealth). I spent a lot of my free time studying up on underground places(knowledge dungeoneering) also. My primary weapon is the bow, but I am not bad in melee either.
Chiron
Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
"I have been trapping and star-mapping for nearly 65 years now, though I am still young in my wisdom and the ways of my people."
I prideful saddness appears on Chiron's face.
"Though, I'll likely not learn much more from my kin. It falls to me to learn the centaur's craft from Desna herself now."
Naen Tesrec

"I did little, William Flynn, and with every passing moment, my doings in life before the charter feel less and less. Though I am a priest of Milani, Brunderton had not but a small shrine dedicated to the Everbloom. It was maintained by my mother, and we never held services or hosted a congregation. Instead, she insisted that I help my neighbors in their fields, that I join the local militia, and finally, that I assist at the town hospital. The hospital...that is where I spent most of my time, even after she had passed. Though I have learned to fight, I have had little opportunity to do so. My skills are better suited to aiding the sick and wounded, through healing their maladies and soothing their fears. I have discovered much in doing that."
William Flynn
Presumably, we make camp when night falls. That shouldn't stop our conversation, though. It's still good to keep up conversation if we can.
Indeed, as the sky grows dark, William will suggest just that. We've been traveling for several hours now, with no sight of anything but wildlife and the thrill of nature. Perhaps it is time we make camp and have a nice meal. Carmichael, if you could be so kind?
William dismounts, feeds Brownie a nice apple, and strokes her mane, whispering words of thanks. He then goes about setting up camp; he starts a fire, sets up his bedroll, and does any other activities that need doing. He also pays curious attention to what Carmichael does when preparing food.

I did not mean that in a sense of let's keep the story moving, but rather more of just give me a heads up type of thing.
Also can I get some survival rolls to see what you can find off the land as well as for you to know the type of weather.| Naen Tesrec |
Though Naen is eager to help set up camp and gather firewood, she says little for most of the evening. She mostly watches and listens to the others. As the party makes preparations to sleep, however, she speaks.
"If we are to assign watches, then let me voice my preference for the last. I like to greet the morning sun."
Carmichael Korvus
Stretching his back from the wild ride, Korvus grins softly a the apex of his back's twist.
"Kindness indeed. This meal will be like a kiss from a celestial." His left eye winks as the mage prepares the rabbit and herbs for dinner, cutting precisely and hopefully fluently enough to satisfy even the most robust palette.
In response to the watch. "I'd take first then if there is no objections. Gives me time to prepare any leftovers for breakfast or the ride outward."
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 Cooking
William Flynn
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 for Survival to find food and create shelter, if necessary. That chance of rain could be uncomfortable.
Then I suppose I'll take the middle watch. How does three watches of four hours each sound? That should give everyone plenty of rest. It looks like we'll have a good many more days of riding ahead of us.
---------------------------------------------
As far as myself, I don't have much worldly experience either. I paid for my board by trapping animals, and in this capacity I learned much about wilderness lore. I can follow a trail, and I can avoid being seen - sometimes, anyway. I've made a study of humanity in order to understand why people behave the way they do. I'm also just interested in learning about... well, anything. I even know a bit about the workings of magic, though I don't claim to cast any spells. I hope to learn much on this expedition.
Erefine
Due to the survival skills of the group you are able to create a shelter that should it rain you will all be kept dry. Carmicheal on your watch the fire glows bright and you notice rain clouds roll in. Lightning splits the sky and it beings a heavy rain. Carmicheal can you roll a cooking skill check to see if you can prepare the leftovers for breakfast.
Also I need everyone taking a watch to make perception rolls.
Carmichael Korvus
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 Cooking
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Perception
"Thanks Chiron, if you find any fresh herbs or edible mushrooms I will be able to add even more taste. Perhaps one of you rangers could show me how to shield a fire from the rain at some point, as cooking can require the alchemy of the flame."
Working around the rain was not easy, but hopefully there would be enough breakfast for even his horse to steal.
Chiron
This is another heads up, I am no officially without internet except at work for the next 4ish days. I will continue to post as often as I can, but if you dont hear from me for a few days its cause I can't post. Erfine, feel free to NPC Chiron as needed if you need to keep things going.

On Carmichael's watch the storm comes and creatures seeking the comforts of your campfire enter the camp.
Wolves attack:
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
The wolves actually get a suprize round as Carmichael fell asleep on his watch.
Wolves attack:
Alpha wolf attacks Carmichael.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
If hit:
1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Wolf 2:
Attacks the sleeping hobgoblin...
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
If hit:
1d4 ⇒ 2
Wolf 3:
Attacks Chiron
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
If hit:
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Wolf 4:
Attacks William:
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
If hit: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Naen Tesrec
Initiative = 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
If the wolves have taken no damage yet (or have taken enough damage to kill them) when it comes to her turn, Naen picks up her morningstar as a move action and then channels energy:
1d6 ⇒ 1
If one or more of the wolves is wounded, Naen instead casts Bless after picking up her morningstar.
Chiron
Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Chiron wakes to see a gaping wolf's maw about to snap shut on his fore leg. He pulls back and rears but not in time to avoid the bite.
Chiron takes 3 damage
He is able to quickly retaliate however, and brings two powerful hooves down on the beast's head.
Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Naen Tesrec
If Chiron has actually damaged one of the wolves, Naen will not channel energy on her turn. As I mentioned in the above post, she does not want to heal enemies. She will cast Bless instead.
All of Naen's allies gain a +1 morale bonus to attack rolls and saves against fear (after initiative 12).
