Just sent in a dice game modeled after the Lands of the Linnorm Kings society. Actually designed for out of game play (or an in game diversion to break from game play), but can be used for flavor as well. 1503 words (could not trim any more ... it was at 1579).

I wonder if they play Hnefetaefl in the Land of the Linnorm Kings?

Or a variant, with Golarion-inspired pieces?

Your recipes...they aren't all lutefisk, are they? <shudder>

Also, can any of our Finnish friends give me a good translation for 'dragonslayer'? The best I've got so far is 'Käärmetappaja'.
I'm aware that's just my attempt at two words stuck together, and I'd prefer to get it in the correct tense.

Alas, I'll likely be sitting this issue out, Tim. Too much going on. And I'm on deadline again for Paizo with much to do. Sadly, this will be the first issue of Wayfinder I've missed.

He's engaged on other highly important business. Yes, stuff which is stretching the capacity of even his much vaunted abilities. Leave the poor man alone, or Gulga Cench will be around.

A board game ... hmmm ... wonder if I could work one up over the next two days ... ;)

And no, the recipes do not call for lutefisk (I have never been a fan of that aspect of my heritage ... and I don't think my grandfather, father or uncles ever relished it either ... I know, bad vikings <sigh>). You may see herring or pike though, depending on which ones I break out.

Sent!

1496 words, at last count.

I would urge everyone to be aware that the editing and cutting of those troublesome extra words can take as long as the writing of the article, so don't leave it to the last minute!

The spell-check 'helpfully' suggested I change the NPC's name to 'Gerbil'. I hope I remembered to use the 'ignore' function every time....

Dark Archive Contributor

I'll see if I can get another article together, maybe try for a few Northern themed items or an archetype.

Re-sent my article! 750 neat words! Hope this fits!^^

Sovereign Court

Writing up rules for a board game right now. Hoping to have it in later tonight. I am assuming any image files to accompany it (starting layout) should be individual files included in the submission e-mail.

Sovereign Court

Should have the ruleset for a board game written up tonight (thanks for mentioning Hnefetaefl Snorter).

Liberty's Edge Contributor

Tim, I won't be getting a story submitted this time, but wanted to confirm with you that I'm available as an editor, again. (You can pretty much assume that will always be the case, but I'll try to confirm with each issue, just in case.) You've got my e-mail...fire when ready. ;)

I wish I'd thought of it earlier.

On the way home, I was trying to think of ways to alter the game, so it was less "Kill the King!", and more "Catch the Mammoth!". But I'd need to justify the other white pieces, and why they'd be working together.

Found several variant setups here. Though you have to scroll about halfway.

Ah, see, I just used it as a rough basis and tweaked the concept a bit. But yes, it is not so much "Kill the King" , though that can be a tactic. And a random element has been added to reflect the random nature of the Lands from which it comes. ;)

Also set up for 2-4 players ... limited pieces per player, etc. I think it should work out pretty well.

OK, RL got in the way (it's pesky that way sometimes). The rule set should be coming tomorrow (the 29th, not the 30th).

And the Weal or Woe as well.

And the recipes.

I guess it's just best to say expect several things over Thursday and Friday. ;)

Scarab Sages

So...it'll be two detailed NPCs, sat around a board, playing 'Catch the Lutefisk'?

"Bash him,
Smash him.
Mush him,
Crush him.

You can tickle him and pickle him, but catch that Lutefisk NOOOOWWWW!!!"

Artist should send e-mails to Hugo? or wayfinder.fanzine@gmail.com ?

Here I come with another piece on:
-Real-world Norse gods conversions
-Druidical domains, oracle and barbarian archetypes^^
Gimme some hour to translate and adjust the whole and I'll send it...

Scarab Sages

Well, what do you know? One of the ideas I had for Witch patrons got ninjaed by Ultimate Magic....pffft.

And it seems like it's rather difficult to create a meaningful archetype for the class, since all you have available to swap are the hexes, so what you're effectively doing is simply making the intended ability a new hex.
That's certainly the case with the Sea Witch; alternate patron list, swap some hexes.
Most of the customisation is already built into the class.

Scarab Sages

Most of the way through a Bestiary entry; the flavour text, description, and the meat and potatoes of the stat block are done, just tweaking some SLAs, and comparing them to other creatures of similar CR.

Dark Archive

one day to go... get those submissions in!

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Sent off a quick little recipe in case it's useful...

Okay, submit. Phew.

Dark Archive Contributor

Okay, sent in one more...

Did you receive my second submission?

I did indeed!

We are looking much better now. Thank you, all.

However, I always like to see more! If you are writing up something, keep at it! I want to see it!

We haven't really had the recipe column in for a few issues, it seems.

I'd like to make some room for them, if you've got some good Norwegian/Nordic/Scandinavian dishes to share!

Send 'em in (with some flavor text to give it that Ulfen feel)!

Scarab Sages

Norwegian Rock Cakes....made for real men, from real rocks.

Frustrating. My ideas just aren't coming together the way I would like, and I've got pleanty of school deadlines to meet. Congrats to those who managed to get things sent in, I look forward to reading your work when this is sent out.

Fair to assuming the next issue will be dealing with the Shackles?

Scarab Sages

What a day.
I was all set for a day of boondoggling, with the team leader being away, then I got asked to show a new starter the ropes. Guuuuuhh!

I managed to get almost finished, last one in the office, or so I thought, then another of the bosses came round, doing the sweepup checks, and asked me to close all the windows that had been left open in the heatwave. All the windows. Like twenty per side on our floor.

Get back, finish the article, except for the last line I'm trying to squeeze in. Send it anyway, then realise I hadn't asked for delivery receipt.

It's now twenty minutes after official clocking off time, and the security are coming round, so I log off, and go for my train, which is delayed. It then doesn't start, and half the train gets uncoupled, before we can set off.

I'm now back home, and sent a second copy (since I wisely cc'ed myself into the first), with 5 minutes to go.

Did you get the statblock for Icelandic Bard?

'Geyser' Butler?

Icelandic Bard? "love" I want to read it NOW!
And...
You aren't Thor! I AM Thor!

That goes with the story I did with a Lappish bard. Technically a Varki bard, but I went with Lapp/Sami flavor for the Varki.

Fiction sent. Now if I can get this cool bestiary concept from hot mess to slick production, it will follow in a bit.

Sovereign Court

Rules for "The Great Hunt" board game sent (included illustrations for piece layout, movement, capture, etc).

~753 words (not including illustration placement notation)

Sent 1500 word exactly. Crossing my fingers.

Sovereign Court

Just sent in three recipes (total length 757 words).

Don't think I will get that Weal or Woe in, but that's OK. Hopefully the other stuff I have submitted may make it in.

Got in some crunchy filler last night, before midght Paizo Standard Time.

Nice to see you're keeping regular.

Shadow Lodge

I got my Kaulder bestiary/PC race (read: ice elf, the "Cold fey" of Baba Yaga's invasion) in with just 10 minutes to go. Then again with corrections at 3 minutes to go, then with supplemental information 30 minutes late or so. I'm sure Tim was tired of hearing from me at that point.
So Tim, like I said, if you need a Weal or Woe that fits nicely into the Lands of the Linnorm Kings, let me know. I could probably have it to you by tonight or Sunday night, and with a little editing (cutting out 400 words - I think it's clocking in around 1900 right now), I could have have a Kaulder outcast short story for you.

Also, I originally went with Kaldr (Norwegian for Cold) because it looked more "icelandic." Kaulder? Kaldr? Any opinions, folks?

So, the deadline has passed, and it is time to see what this batch looks like!

I have to say this, however...we made this call for submissions back in JUNE, when PaizoCon started. I truly thought that by getting the word out early, I'd have a nice stack of submissions by the deadline. But....I did not.

Now, I DO have a nice stack right now, BUT, it's largely due to a small group of fans who took it upon themselves to answer the call when I mentioned that I really wasn't getting any submissions to make the 'zine. That small group submitted upwards of 3-4 articles each.

SO, MANY BIG THANK YOUS to those prolific writing fans!

But that also requires me to question if making the early call for submission is even worth the effort....comments on that?

IMO, it has become painfully obvious that Wayfinder NEEDS a website. And our call for submissions NEEDS to be put out there on more gaming and writing websites, blogs, forums, and Sheyln knows wherever else, so that we aren't begging for articles.

Timitius,

I just stumbled across this, and I'm sorry I somehow missed it. I would have liked to have submitted something. (Hmm. Maybe "lucky" Wayfinder #7)?

I'm on Paizo daily or at least every other day. And I'd say, it just slipped my notice between my visits.

I think you have something though, when you mention Wayfinder needing it's on website. Is that a possibility in the offing?

Good Luck! and here's to Wayfinder #7!

In no way meant to disregard the upcoming Wayfinder #6 Looking forward to #6's release of course.

Timitus, why not try to get the wayfinder up in the paizo news feed? maybe a store blog? i'm sure if you do that ~2 weeks in advance you'll get much more imput next time arround

That's a good idea. I'm sure they'd be happy to put in a plug for the 'zine.

Sovereign Court

Tim you are using that familiars article that I submitted (but wasn't used) for 5 right?

As to the Wayfinder needing it's own place: I've been trying to get that for a while now. As far as I'm concerned we need a place to toss around ideas, post rough drafts, and discuss articles or stories. Without a place to specifically do that Wayfinder talk gets buried pretty quickly with all the other gamer talk on this site. Right now we have a fairly small and loyal group of people working on the zine but without our own location growing that group is going to be very hard.

Also Tim I think you've made some great choices thus far, any slow down in the stream of submissions isn't your fault, but I suspect that the even numbered zines are getting less interest because they're not being printed and not being handed out at paizoCon.

Wait...what?

That's where I was given my printed copy of Wayfinder 5... In my swag bag on day 1. Did yours get pilfered?

Shadow Lodge

Oh, NOW I get it. Even numbered zines. Is that how it works? Only the odd numbered ones are printed?
Now I'm finally realizing a may just be a dumb@$$. So is the magazine released yearly, or is it every six months?

Wayfinder does 2 issues per year. One is produced for PaizoCon, since that is how the whole thing started...as a hand-out from fans to fans at PaizoCon. It went over so well that Liz and Hugo decided to do a winter issue, that is PDF only.

So, odd-numbered issues are PDF AND a hardcopy, available only at PaizoCon (500 copies), and even-numbered issues are PDF-only. We try and run them 6 months apart.
