My players are smart cookies. *shakes her head* In the beginning of the labyrinth the suspicious barbarian attempted to smash the 'dead end' wall of area E1, made his will save and came to the realization it's an illusion. Of course, the rest of the party followed and the party found Neolandus. My concern is this: My party is a hack-n-slash party, and I *know* when they enter area E24 they will simply kill the elephants there, making Vencarlo impossible to rescue. Any ideas of how to "fix" this? Should I even attempt to?
Thanks everyone!

Well, if they honestly think a set of elephants strapped to gears are threats, they aren't really smart cookies. In other words, I would hope that the players would realize that the creatures are in the labyrinth for a reason other than murder.
However, you need suggestions. I don't remember the encounter that well, but maybe a permanent wall of force would keep the creatures alive, and the PCs would have to figure out how to move them through that.
If that isn't suitable, get rid of the elephants. It reduces the flavour of the dungeon somewhat, but it's a better option than having the PCs get stuck completely.

Make the elephants construct devices that are non combative and have hardness. They can whack at them awhile and get bored. Vimanda can always interrupt their reckless abandon and proposition them to remove the darksphinx and hint at Vincarlo's whereabouts. Then of course have them chose which Arkona to stand with.
