In the first part there is a Janni that you can take as cohort with the leadership feet. What level equavelnet is he? 6HD CR 4

Or How about a Medium elemental 4 HD CR 3/ or Large one 8HD CR 5.

Hound Archon is 6HD and CR 4 andd level 7.
Hell Hound is 3 HD and CR 3 and level 7.
Satyr 8HD, CR 4 level 7.
Unicorn is 4HD, CR 3 and level 8

Well, are you using 3.5 or Pathfinder?

If 3.5 use HD plus Level Adjustment to determine effective level, easy as pie.

If using Pathfinder use CR +1 (so a CR 4 creature is the equivalent of a Level 5 creature) since PC class characters are CR equal to Level-1.

I wish that where true CR +1 for leadership but the chart that copied is from the bestiary which wholly disagrees with that.

Huh. I'd honestly never seen that before. Most of those aren't that far off. Bear in mind that those numbers are what level a PC needs to have in order to get the cohort, while my system was a statement of their equivalent level.

So the two are identical for a Pixie or Hound Archon (since CR 4 is the equivalent of Level 5, which the PC needs to be Level 7 to have as a cohort). A few are a bit different (the Bralani looks seriously overvalued, for example) but the system would seem to work okay as a benchmark.

Dont forget the cohorts alignment cannot oppose the Leaders. Other than that, Id say any of those would be alright. Its between you and the GM. Whatever serves the overall story best. Personally, I would probably pick either the janni or the hound archon out of those listed.
