Lowering Your CMD?

Is there any way by RAW to lower (or forgo) your own CMD, if you want to be grappled, tripped, etc? By RAW, is this legit in any form?

I'd houserule the player can treat his Dex as 0 if they want, but it would affect everything for that round then, not just the "beneficial" maneuver.

What are the circumstances? If a character under their own control wanted to allow themselves to be tripped or grappled i wouldn't even roll for it, it would just happen.

For "tripped", a character can fall prone as a free action. If you just want to grab hold of someone who is falling (instead of give them the 'grappled' condition), this is from the Climb skill.

Quote:
Catch a Falling Character While Climbing: If someone climbing above you or adjacent to you falls, you can attempt to catch the falling character if he or she is within your reach. Doing so requires a successful melee touch attack against the falling character (though he or she can voluntarily forego any Dexterity bonus to AC if desired).

Maybe that's sufficient.

Anyway, to answer your question Garden Tool, I'm not aware of any such contingency. Depending on the situation, however, there may be other workarounds to get the desired effect. If you're wanting to be tripped or disarmed, dropping prone or letting go of what you're holding are free actions. If you're paralyzed and want an ally to bull rush you to safety, they could probably just make a STR check to push/carry you instead of making the Bull Rush attempt. Depends on the situation.

So in short, no, but there are probably other options for the situations where you want to do this.

We were playing a game last week where my sorcerer was standing at the edge of a rat swarm 'burining handsing' it. and another PC wanted to 'drag' or 'bullrush' him away from the swarm...

She had to make a CMB attack to do it, and I was glad she did... but we didn't give any bonuses or anything to the roll...

Fortunately she made it, but yeah... the question DID come up about 'what if I'm not really resisting?'

Would "No. Next question." been any better? As long as people are clear between rules-as-written and here's how I'd do it, I think any reply is better than nothing.

Back to original post. No, not as I think you want to do, not by the rules-as-written anyway. I suppose you could close your eyes, effectively blinding yourself, so that you take a -2 penalty to AC (which also applies to CMD). Since you got your eyes closed you could go to sleep which would be another -4 penalty to your AC and your Dexterity would be treated as 0. (You apparently must be able to go to sleep when you want even if there is no action for it.)

As I recently said in another post. "Why is this important? I usually find when these questions come up it's because someone is about to cut the cheese, if you know what I mean. (Not saying that's the case here; just asking, because sometimes it is easier to answer when you have the entire question.)"

The book should have text somewhere mentioning that attacks against a creature succeed if the creature isn't resisting. After all, Cure Light Wounds is a Touch attack, yet I doubt even a reasonable minority of groups force those rolls.

I know you can forego saving throws ...
