Is UM worthless for my Paladin's moral dilemma with a katana?

Rules Questions

Well? Is it?

...sorry, just couldn't resist.

Anyway, it's summer, so Pathfinder is in full swing. Or at least a form of Pathfinder for our group. One oddball thing that's come up is that an animal that has been with us may become both my animal companion AND my familiar, based upon my character level.

I know this doesn't work in normal pathfinder, but what if it did? What advantages do you see in an animal being both? It's a hawk, btw. (Oh, I don't get both natural armor bonuses, just the Animal Companion's)

Druid/Animal Companion

Wizard/Familiar

Oh, another random thing while I'm here:

I've been watching too much anime as of late; namely Fairy Tail. I suppose you could emulate a Dragon Slayer in pathfinder by being a Dragon Disciple, but how about some of the others? How would you implement a Stellar Spirit Mage? Or how about something like Erza's re-quip magic?

it's really up to your dm as by raw you cannot have a creature as both. most animals suitable to be familiars make for poor animal companions and the act of becoming a familiar invalidates a creature to become an ac.
