Hey there,
My friends and I had a little dispute last night about where a Flaming Sphere starts when you cast it.
It is my opinion that I would be able to spawn the Sphere anywhere within it's cast range (100 + (10*level)) which would have been 140 yards in my case. The other players disagreed and said it spawns in the square in front of me and roll 30 yards from me (maybe even using up my move action just to roll it!)
I've searched through lots of message boards to get a clear answer, but an answer from here would probably be best. :) Can anyone clear this up for us?

You are correct. It starts at the spot you select within the spell's range. The move of 30 feet per round is something that can be done once the spell has already been in effect for at least one round.
You could just cast it and let it sit there for the duration, and it would not take a move action.
The casting range is the range at which you can manifest a spell being cast. This is basic, and the same for ALL spells (except those spells that specifically state they originate from you and extend out to the targeted range and/or subject).
Also, it's measured in feet, not yards.
