Big Book of Races

This is a current work in production I'm working on.

Right now, I've only got like 2 races, and 2 names of two other races. Later I'll reupload the PDF with stats for the two other races, some favored class bonuses etc.

Chimera sounds like it could give everyone a lot of headache.

Will this only include furries or will you add fantasy races later on?

I don't mean to be mean, but really, what is a "fantasy race"?

Does it being a "furry" race immediately remove it from being able to be a fantasy race?

Now I'll admit, I'll be avoiding Half-giants and half-ogers and full giants. Cause really, to me, those races unless they have something really alien about them, are just humanish races.. Like every race in the Core book.

As for chimera, The reason its there is actually to create a bit of a boon and weakness. I don't want to make them monsterous humanoids because that allows them to avoid certain effects, also don't want to make a whole bunch of humanoid subraces either. Like half-elf and Half-orc.

What's wrong with making humanoid subraces? Not all humanoid races are half-human (look at Tengu, for instance). I think humanoid is a good creature type for a playable race. Chimera as written allows your guys to turn into gorgons with disguise self / alter self, I think?

The thing that ends up being wrong with it is Rangers.

If you have a world that allows every race from the big book of races and we made a ton of humanoid sub types, the poor rangers would have a hard time actually being able to pick a favored enemy.

And you wouldn't be able to turn into gorgons, not with alterself at least. Disguise self, yeah, you would be able to..

So I dunno right now, Chimera may end up being deleted and the amount of favored enemy options explodes.

Ok... so... create a new humanoid subtype and give it to multiple races. The way there're multiple humanoid (goblin) races. :)

Brilliant!

We could actually do that. Humanoid (Chimera).

Sometimes the solutions are so damn simple. ><

=) Glad to be useful!

So, is your plan to have these races exist in their own isolated setting, separate from the core, or are they meant to be balanced with/interact with the core? Not asking because I want to produce some kind of false dichotomy between "furry" and "fantasy," just out of curiosity on topics of balance and such.

Well I do want to make it balanced with the core, just in case someone who does want to use them could use them along side the core.

Got it :)

Felpurrs look pretty good though I might make arcane curiosity an alternative class feature rather than an automatic class feature. It's very class-specific, like, you're going to be spellcaster if you have it, and if that's the default for felpurrs they're probably mostly going to be spellcasters?

Rawulf is interesting. I love pack tactics. Channel energy ... what's the DC based on? CHA? WIS? And what kind of energy is channeled?

Well I'm looking for other racial abilities for felpurrs. But I don't find it too far out of line myself with some of the other races starting DCs on magics.

Since unlike Core, this book will start with the alternate racial features there really isn't too much difficulty there.

Kinda like a Tiefling's infernal magics ability.

For Rawulf, the Channel Energy is suppose to run exactly as if you had channel energy as a cleric.

Speaking of Tieflings, I'm thinking about putting them in, with the Council of thieves alternates, allowing you to be one without having to take up a feat just to change your starting stats. Cause personally, I didn't like that.

I'd also like to do the same with Aasimeries. What ever celestial bodies could alternate their stats.. But they would be harder.

Bah.. I was hoping I could over write the file and keep the link at the top upto date..

Version 0.02

I plan for around 20 races, compleate with a full list of favored class bonuses and alternate racial features. Even feats, equipment, and traits.

That pretty much wraps up the so called "furry" races, unless there is some requests. for the most part, anything horse like such a deer, would be taken care of with equarians. Minorus take care of anything bull like. The reptile one takes care of most reptiles (Not things like turtles)

I plan on adding Gimbile and Tengu from the bestiaries. Probably kobolds too. Both our planes touched races, and a slight possibility on dampier. I'm not adding any that far exceed the LA or Drow. Probably not adding goblins, orcs, hogoblins either. Orcs already got their book and I hear that goblins are getting one too. (Though it just might be reminiscent of the april fools joke)

Another update

changed the names on felpurrs to kincade and rawulfs to Lupin because someone said that it just invoked the image of a busty pink horny cat when the name was felpurr.

Thanks to them, I cannot play wizardy 8 anymore.

I'm focusing my efforts right now on Kincade as I intend to playtest one soon here, and want it to become as balanced as possible with the core races.
