Monitor Lizard

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So i was thinking about Making a Dragon shaman with a Monitor Lizard Companion, it looks like the Monitor Lizard is the Komodo (given the Dragon reference in the lizards description)

But it occured to me that the Lizards Poison if this Is the case seems a Tad Weak.

Though not sure if its relevant they were saying recently they think Komodo's are actually poisonous and that its not just the massive Bactiral infestation in the Saliva that kills people.

The monitor lizard is a real animal, see here, but otherwise it works perfectly well with any appropriate sized lizard from the komodo, to a large water dragon, to a giant iguana.

Also, I believe like any other animal it's poison save is influenced by the creatures con score.

Oh i knew the Monitor Lizard was a real Lizard, But i didnt know he Rl one was Poisonous Silly me i was so focused on using it for a Komodo Dragon I hadnt thought of that.

And you can get the DC up fine but a save of 1/hour for six hours is sadly not so useful for PC

I guess i got a Bit of Tunnel Vision looking at it from the direction of a Dragon shaman.

Is this another 'Animal Companions are underpowered in Pathfinder' thread?

Those animal companions are not meant to be perfect replicas of real animals.

Hmm No actually Ime fine with the Lizards stats actually. the Normal Beastiary Monitor Lizard has the same poison at a Dc appropriate for its CR.

I was just thinking Oooh Komodo Dragon its Poison will be Sick! but there isnt an actual Komodo Companion so got to make due :P I'll fugre out what the char looks like beyind the theoretical when i have time tomorrow.

Just as in real life the poison or actually saliva of the Komodo dragon is a very slow killer, it usually takes days or weeks for the animals to succumb to the infection that the saliva causes.

Still kind of cool to have a big old lizzy trompin around by your side.
