Here is the discussion thread. Any communications you want to have with me or the group out of character should be handled here. I trust everyone to be on their honor in this and the game thread, but if you need something you feel spoilers alone cannot cover, then my email is lordkalizar@aol.com. Welcome to the game.

Adreccam Surtova |

This is Eryndur posting as Adreccam Surtova from here on out, reporting for duty. I'm rooting for you, Kalizar. If you actually manage to pull off 3 Kingmaker threads, you should be officially recognized by Paizo as the most durable DM ever.
This is my first PbP on these boards, by the way. What's the code for that fancy blue OOC text you guys were using in the recruitment thread? And how can I subscribe to a thread so I get instant email notification?

If you hit the show bbc codes button below the text box when posting, you will see how you can type in blue, bold, italics, etc. Typically blue is for out of character or off topic comments as part of a regular post. I use bold text when it is actually something a character is speaking. For internal thoughts or comments not said allowed, I use italics.
Welcome.

Eryndur, I think you're missing a language on your character. You have just common listed and you should have an extra language based on your intelligence bonus. Though I suppose you might have decided that Adreccam only speaks common. :)

Raktin Inarom |

Hey all,
Posting with my Ranger. I think the sheet is complete and good to go.
I'll fill out more of his background in a bit, but overall he feels a bit resentful towards the current ruling class of Brevoy and has a family title to a small plot of land in the Stolen Lands. Raktin sort of feels like his family's interests have otherwise been abandoned and is excited to now get the chance to strike a blow for his family name.

I just added a little history to my sheet as well as deciding what spells I will have prepared for the day. I figure I will just change my sheet whenever I prepare different spells for the day unless you would prefer another method?

Just let me know when you make changes, and I'll make note on my end. Save me from needing to check back and forth as the game progresses. Thanks.

Flynn, we should talk about our shared Surtova heritage at some point. Adreccam is a minor scion like yourself, and I think our circumstances preclude us from having known each other before the adventure. I kind of like it that way, though.
I can see us knowing each other ahead of time. Not sure how to integrate that. I guess, technically though, by our backgrounds, we would be cousins.

Adreccam Surtova |

Unless I altered my background, the only realistic way I see Flynn and Adreccam knowing each other was from when they were very young. Adreccam was disowned by his father when he was ten, and kicked into the streets of Restov to fend for himself. He knows he's a Surtova, but has had zero contact with the family for over ten years.
I think it'd be cooler if we adventured together for a long time, and then slowly came to the realization that we're related. It'd be a cool revelation to have in the future.
Whatever's clever, though. I'm not picky.

Question relevant to the duel:
Can shields be disarmed or must they be sundered? In Pathfinder you can't disarm something worn, but it's not clear whether shields are "worn" or "carried".
Arguments that it can be disarmed: It can be equipped with the same actions it takes to equip weapons. And it can be used like a weapon. Weapons are "carried".
Arguments that it can't: It's strapped to the forearm and listed under armor. Armor is "worn".

Alrighty, looks like they can be. ;)

For the dramatics of the scene, I allowed the shield to be lost in the scramble from the attack.
In a true life or death conflict, no, the shield would not have been disarmed, Adreccam would have only lost hold of the handle for that round, so basically shieldless until his next action. Fair? Opinions welcome.

I don't mind either way. I'm happy with people having a reason not to sunder shields.

Adreccam Surtova |

It's my understanding that if you beat CMD by 10 (which you did), then you disarm everything the victim is wielding. Since I used my shield to attack, I lost its bonus to AC for the next round (though there was no next round, to my everlasting shame). So, my interpretation is that when I use the shield to attack, it is a wielded weapon for that round and the following round. Otherwise, the shield is armor, and cannot be disarmed.
Long story short, I think it played out just fine.

I'm good either way on the shield thing. Just as long as we all know what it is going to be moving forward. Not much else makes you feel as upset as when a rule changes mid-campaign. Believe me, I know. I've had a couple of things that have changed in my home campaign due to a new FAQ release or errata and the players were not happy. And that's "Official".
Love the dialogue so far and the descriptions. Keep up the good work. But please don't make Ratkin wait any longer, I think he's about to destroy some perfectly good books. ;)

A player can spend an action point to add 1d6 to any to hit roll, saving throw, critical confirmation, or skill check prior to determining if the current roll result is successful.
A player can spend an action point to add 1 point to any to hit roll, saving throw, critical confirmation, or skill check after determining the current roll result is a failure.
Hero Points are used as described in the Advanced Player's Guide, except that Hero Points are only awarded by the DM, per DM discretion, not by leveling up.

I can't find any mention of "Crimson Claw" troopers anywhere. What are they and is there some special significance to their appearance that any of our characters might be aware of or that may be commented upon by the general populace of the city?
