Dungeon Magazine: Shackled City Adventure Path

Shackled City Adventure Path

Anyone around here ever play through this? Has it ever been pulled from the magazine and published together in a seperate volume by itself? Was it completed before the end of Dungeon Magazine? How hard would it be to convert this adventure to Pathfinder rules? I guess this could be considered the original Adventure Path.

Sorry if thats too many questions... Guess I am feeling inquisitive.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Not very. In a sense.

Here's a link to the compiled hardcover version:

All in one place

Wow! Thanks! That looks fantastic! I may have to research a bit to see if I have the time to convert..and especially thanks for the links.I was also very interested in having read the reviews of hearing about Age of Worms and Savage Tide. I may have to research those Adventure Paths as well.

I have decided to return to.. gaming... and discovered Pathfinder. I like what I see so far. As a DM- eh- GM.. though think maybe it should be PathMaster now- but that would make me a PM.. hmmm.. anyway- sorry- tangent..

I don't have a lot of time to design having a fulltime(60hour a week job and social life) week so adventure paths seem like the way to make running a game a lot more realistic given my free time.

The three Adventure Paths we built for Dungeon do still work fine with Pathfinder—and if you're looking for a campaign that'll take your PCs up to 20th level or perhaps even 21st, those three APs are definitely the way to go. Some of them are kinda hard to get these days, alas—the Shackled City AP is compiled and revised in hardcover mode, of course, but the other two never got compiled so you have to track down the 12 magazines they were in. We've got many of those backissues for sale here, but some of them are sold out so you'll need to track them down on ebay or used bookstores or whatever.

AND! Thanks for checking out Pathfinder, by the way! It's always good to get gamers back in the fold! :-)

I am running it for 2 groups using Pathfinder rules..

One thing is you may have to beef things up a bit. Especially encounters with only 1 creature, because they go down quicker due to having alot less actions that a whole party. Plus, there are alot of creatures in SC that do not exist in PF, so i just beefed them a bit and am using them anyway...

It works pretty cool.

I would also highly reccomend this AP if, like me, you work and have kids. You will find as much or as little extra content on the boards as you wish to add to the game, it works great by itself so don't feel obligated. Enjoy!

I plan on running this AP but I have a few questions...
1) I have all the relevant issues of dungeon for SC. Is the hardback worth it for the extra content if I have all the dungeon issues?
2) Where in Golarion is a good place for Cauldron to be located?

1) It depends how cheap you are. :-) It has some nice background, a pull-out map and an extra (so-so) adventure; nothing particularly essential, but it's only $30.

2) There have been multiple threads on the topic. Let me see if I can dig one up before TriOmegaZero scoops me!

There are more out there, but this should get you started.

Thanks for the help and direction

Re: the added benefit of the hardback, I would say this: I've compared the two a bit, and they made lots of modifications and clarifications from one to the other. (Just one example: they made the tilt-a-pit traps in Jzadirune a lot less deadly, although there's three versions if you include the one in the Dungeon online supplement). You also get stuff like full 20 level progressions for a lot of important NPC's: Jenya, the Stormblades, and the Striders. And honestly, it's just a lot more convenient to have everything between two covers. I would also mention the online Dungeon supplements for a few of the chapters (1, 2, and 12, if I remember right) and the treasure trove of supporting documents that is the rpgenius SCAP cache.

I highly recommend the hardcover. It's a beauty!

1) maybe not worth it purely for the extra rpg content, but it sure is worth it to have in one place, for the great presentation, because it is inexpensive and a great campaign. I have all the mags and dont see myself running it in the forseeable future yet I got a hardback. It is so cheap for what you get

2) Dont know I recall the Shackles being mentioned...

I have mine set in the Shackles and am planning on making "Sasserine" Port Peril, and also having the PC's head to some of the other Islands to do the Styes and maybe another side trek or 2...
