I'm brand new to the Society, and I'd like to try GMing a scenario using PbP. I've GMed PbP numerous times with other systems over the years, so the medium is old hat. The logistics of reporting an official Society scenario is what's confusing me. A few questions:
- I can easily send a chronicle sheet to each player via email. After they fill it in, how do I mark it up and sign it officially? Do I do so by hand, scan it, and then send back the scan to the player? Can that player use that chronicle sheet in future events, and be assured that it is official?
- Say a person wants to play with a PC that has already been used in PFS. Should I require that person to send me a scan of their latest chronicle sheet, so I can look it over?
If you have any general advice as to how to make a PFS PbP run smoothly, I'm all ears!
Thanks in advance!

Actually, you shouldn't need to get teh chroinicle sheet back frmo the players, you just need to scan in a signed and fille dout (for GM information) sheet for each player.
As long as the GM required pieces are properly filled in, teh sheet should be official for that PC for any future games.
As to whether you want to look over anyone's previous chronicles, that is your decision. For the most part, unless something seems hinky, most GMs don't really bother auditing characters.
One thing you might want to make sure your players know and understand: Unless this is one of the sanctioned modules, the PC being played in the PbP is locked out of being played anywhere else until the PbP game is completed.
And, of course, the PC must be in the legal level range for the scenario being played.

Interesting. So the players aren't required to fill out the sheets. I did not know that. That will facilitate things a great deal. And I didn't realize that bit about the PCs being locked in. Perhaps I'll recommend that they create new PCs in addition to whatever else they have in the Society, so at least they can use the other PCs at live events.

The GM isn't required to sign off on the player partof the sheet. Most players like to have time to consider their options, especially if their PC is going to level from the XP, or they are trying to decide between saving gold for a big purchase, or what they want to buy. Unkless they are going on to play the same PC in another slot in a few minutes, there is usually some time before they have to make their choices.
I don't think there is any lock-down, although they recommend that your PbP game not be accessible to the general public, due to spoilers.
The lock-in is because of other events that could happen, including things like PC death, leveling, etc. A normal PFS scenario is designed to fit in a 5 hour time block, including doing the documentation, so it is usually not an issue. It is mainly in PbP & PBeM that this can happen, since PbP and PBeM both take significantly longer than a few hours get-together.
