Spontaneous Caster Help

Advice

Heya everyone! It's been quite awhile since I've had a chance to play and I've fallen behind on things, but have a new game starting soon and I'd like some help.

We're gonna be playing Serpent's Skull, but here's the trick - there's only 2 of us, myself and my friend who will be playing a magus. I know that I want to play a spontaneous caster (because I hate dealing with memorization), but sorceress or oracle is proving to be a difficult choice. My idea for the character is an Osirian sorceress-type (or oracle - the image is of a caster, not specifically what power source) with a sort of snake fetish. Think Egyptian sorceress stereotype and you're in the right place, basically.

Now, here's the trouble...if I go sorc, we have no healing in the characters, only in wands/potions/etc. If I go oracle, I have no idea which bloodline would fit this image but also be useful. Additionally, I'm horrible about buff spells - long duration stuff (10m/lvl or longer) I'm fine with, but if it's an in-combat or immediately-before-combat cast, it's troublesome for me (especially when we have no scout). I'd also, if possible, like to have a snake familiar to fit the theme - if it's not doable, I can drop that, but it'd sure be nice.

So, fellow Paizonians...does anyone have any ideas? She doesn't have to be the most optimized character ever, obviously, but I want to make sure she's at least useful in a party of 2, while still fitting the concept...

You can always add some snake flavor with UM feats, at least you can now.

What powers are snakes associated with in myth and game lore? Healing is one, but if you can think of others that fit what you want then you can look for Oracle mysteries that fit the concept. Time fits the "great serpent" vies from Wheel of Time, but that might not be what you are looking for.

crossblooded (UM) Celestial, serpentine bloodline (APG), pathfinder savant (Seeker of secrets), heal kit.

Use the savant abilities to add healing spells to your list.

Or go with oracle and use the eldritch heritage feats (UM) to gain the serpentine bloodline powers.

*UM = Ultimate Magic, APG = Advance player's guide, Seeker of Secrets is a pathfinder companion book produced by Paizo.

@Jason: off the top of my head, healing, temptation, enchantment, poison, resurrection/renewal...yeah, that covers what I can think of offhand. Also other Egyptiany stuff works too though - she has a snake theme, but it's not the only thing.

@Abraham: celestial for the heal bolt I assume? Would that be enough healing for the lower levels before savant? And if you were to pick oracle and use the eldritch heritage feats, which mystery would you suggest? I'd love to have the channeling from life, but that's a bit too healy focused I think...

If you go with an egyptian theme you can always go with the flame oracle (sun god aspect) or bones (death aspect) or lore. There isn't a trickery Oracle, but a look at the spell lists for each mystery might provide something close.

I am currently playing a Stormborn sorceress in Serpent's Skull myself atm, and I can say that blasting (so far) isn't a waste, despite what the optimizers on the boards say. Most Save or Suck spells aren't multiple target, and one thing this AP has in abundance (we are starting book 4 on Monday) is large numbers of lower level opponents, rather than one really big baddie, although that does show up occasionally.

With only 2 players I don't think that large area heals are really important, but that is just my own opinion.

Celestial partly for the bolt (and no it is unlikely to be enough) and partly for that "descended from gods" feel.

Fire would be nice as an over all thematic choice for a desert culture, however water is known to be a 'healing life sustaining' sort of element so it would make a lot of sense without going directly into life. Perhaps nature also?

Oh, I don't want channel for large area heals...more because I suspect I'll be using more spells than normal, given the half-size party.

Hmm...I think oracle is the right way to go then. One of the ones with some blasty stuff, if there's large numbers of weak enemies like that. I'll hafta take a look at those you both mentioned and see which will fit best.
