Hasn't arrived in Australia just yet, but am eager to see how the story will progress. I actually like the new White-And-Black outfits, very eye-catching and providing a great 'break' from the Blue and Black outfits of the old FF and the Red, Blue and Black that web-head uses.

The difference betwen Peter and the rest of the FF science community (Reed, Victor Von Doom, Valeria, Nathaniel, all the "smart kids", etc.) is that Peter's forte is real-world biology and chemistry, as opposed to outre hyper-dimensional physics and super-advanced "magic" biology. He's probably read papers in the scientific journals about "Pym particles" and "unstable molecules", the same as the rest of his grad student colleagues, but he's based more around the idea of elastic polymers and resonant radiations.
(Of course, this is all pre-One-More-Day Peter Parker. I have no idea what kind of science the ret-conned character knows.)
I, for one, am tired of FF (whatever that might stand for) being little more than "Reed Richards and his supporting cast." I really didn't want issues two through whatever to be more of the alternate Reeds (where's the Brute when you need him?) and Valeria being the creepiest little girl in the world.
What's the dynamic between Peter and Sue, for example? Oh, and since Peter's the only member of the Avengers who can't draw a paycheck there, is he drawing one from the FF?

I guess it's better than most other current Marvel comics since it is not (currently) being watered down to match up better with a movie or being written in "Bendis Same Voice".
So why did Spider-Man need to be on the team? It's like Marvel isn't even trying to be coy about using popular characters to boost sales. It's a given now that Wolverine and/or Spider-Man will be in every comic. They don't even try to make any sense of it in the story anymore. I'd love to see someone put together a timeline of what Peter Parker does in a month.

I don't know if sales and marketing put Peter on the team, but 'In Universe' it's a great fit. Peter (With the possible exception of Jennifer Walters) is very much the 'fifth member' of the team, always has been. He also provides the comedy that the others lack (and was carried by Johnny)

The problem is that 90% of Peter's link to the F4 was Johnny.

There's also the fact that unlike most of those, Peter wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and that his sense of respnsibility made his superhero life take away from his education.

Cash grab or no, Peter's got a good reason to be part of the team. He and the FF have a long history together. He was one of Johnny's best friends and way back in Amazing Spider-Man #1 he actually tried to join the team because he thought they'd give him a paycheck (unfortunately, they were a non-profit team.) Over the years, he's worked with Reed on all sorts of super-science projects including researching the Venom symbiote. Then there was the time he teamed up with Wolvie, Hulk and Ghost Rider to form the New Fantastic Four in order to find and rescue the originals.
Aside from Spidey and She-Hulk, the only character I can think of with enough history with the team to join would be the Silver Surfer. If he wasn't busy with Galactus, Norrin would be an awesome addition to the team.
