Which AP to run?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I'm considering running another Pathfinder AP (I've run second darkness). I'm trying to decide which one. Any thoughts on which one is the best and why?

Sovereign Court

Kingmaker. It is relatively sandbox, fully pathfinder and still has a good underlying story, plus your players are bound to have fun creating a kingdom...

Liberty's Edge

Rise of the Runelords. Best story, best hooks, best chance to keep going to epic...just good stuff.

You can also mix it with Curse of the Crimson Throne if you are creative and skill the bad modules of each.

I ended up basically doing RoTRL 1 and 2, split the 3rd and 4th part, then CoCT 4 and 5, splitting parts of both's 6.

Spoiler:

I linked the plague spread to the Lamia's who sold Vorel's Phage, making it another way they intended to kill greedy souls. I moved the casino from the boat to Korvosa, and had the money spread as payout in the casino that gave people tattoos, killing them and sending them to the runewell. I then had her flee to Ft. Rannick with the PC's in pursuit.

The Party got involved in the politics of while investigating the plague, did the Hospice and then went after the Lamia. After Rannick and the Giant Sorcerer in the cave. I had the giants attempting to form an alliance with some of the hawkish Shoanti to invade Varisia, promising to help invade Korvosa to return it to the Shoanti who sensed Korvosa was vulnerable after all the unrest, and convincing them to tattoo themselves with the Sihedron Rune as part of the alliance.I played up the queen's anti-varisian/shoanti thing as very hitleresque, which made the Shoanti more likely to accept help from any ally to take her out.

All of this was the Part 4 of RoTRL.

That led them to parts of History of Ashes with the PCs going trying to convince the Shoanti not to invade Korvosa despite it appearing weak after all the chaos, leading to Scarwall, then back to Korvosa.

Snuck a little of the runeforge in, but not much as it is kind of superfluous.

At this point, the Queen fled the castle to return to Cheliax for some other stuff involving Sorshen, and the PC's are about to go up into the Kodar mountains.

+1 Rise of the Runelords. I'm in a RotRL campaign currently, and the first 3.5 parts of the adventure path (all I've really played so far) are absolutely amazing each in their own way. Some of the best fun I've had playing RPGs....and I've played for a long while.

That said, it is meant for 3.5...though it converts real easily on the fly. Also, it requires a certain amount of "ability" in terms of the players. There are certainly some fights in there that if you only had 4 players and they weren't built to be pretty efficient in combat, you could end up with a TPK.

So if you want an awesome story that is really varied in tone and style over the course of the AP, as well as a good challenge, then I absolutely recommend RotRL.
