While I'm sure that Ultimate Combat will have cavalier archetypes, there's a great non-mounted one from this year's RPG Superstar - the Hound Master by Cody Coffelt.

Mmm, Hound Master...
I'm sure Ultimate Combat will have a few non-mount based archtypes. They would be silly not to, it's a piece of the cavalier which can be changed out to create entirely new flavors while retaining the original feel of a knight.
I'm thinking so, also. There's a spell in Ultimate Magic that I swear was inspired by a wondrous item that I'm rather familiar with, and I'm sure they'll mine any other things that seem useful. Such as the Hound Master, which was awesome, and which I hope to see again.

That looks like a great idea for a cavalier, especially halflings given their tendency to use dogs as horses.

Is there going to be an archtype for a non-mounted cavalier? I am preparing to run CotCT and the Gray Maidens really lend them self well to the cavalier class. However, the mounted benifits of the class dont really work thematicly.

The Samurai is a non-mounted Cavalier, from what I can tell. They get mounted archery, but they don't focus on the mount like the cavalier does.

Very cool. I would "pimp" something here and there and add a power to grant immediate action move+ attack to him and the hounds. Calling it "let slip the dogs of war".
As stated, the samurai can rely less on the mount. The samurai is more a "you cannot stop me" and "failure is not an option" type of cavalier. I like it a lot.
As I said previously, I would love a Knight archetype fro the cavalier, removing mount and mounted combat related otion to add auras similar to the ones of the 3.5 miniature handbook marshal. But with all the challenge and teamwork feats, full BAB, order stuff of the cavalier.
Additional fun could be add powers based on wisdom (regroup stuff and scatter stuff), intelligence (flanking and extra actions) or charisma (fear and anti-fear) but it could be very hard to balance. Better base those effects on a sigle stat (Charisma I guess).
A feat to gain some of the battle herlad commands, or have them built in the archetype would be really, really cool too.

Actually, to keep small characters from coming out ahead, (having a mount and an extra dog) I worded it so the hounds are not able to be ridden.
I made this archtype for the samurai to have a true, horseless samurai.

Ah, that's right, I missed that. Sorry. Thanks for pointing that out.
