Opinions about Prestige Classes

Advice

I usually like playing multiclass characters or gaining prestige classes that add more depth. I've created a paladin & I would like to add the Shadowdancer prestige class to it. Would it make a plausible combination? The only thing I believe the GM couldn't justify would be summoning a shadow. Is there some other ability/power/follower that can take the shadow's place or could I make the paladin's mount a shadowy aspect?

Why? The Shadow would be LG. It shares your alignment.

It is still an undead creature, I can see the argument that having an undead servant is inherently naughty. In fact, from the SRD description of Shadows: this wisp of shadow is vaguely humanoid in outline and writhes with unholy life.

Still, if it came up in my game I would have no problem reflavoring the Shadow as something less outright evil. I think it being just an animate shadow fits the class better anyway.

I think in the case of the shadowdancer the shadow is animated by a crude form of sympathetic magic rather than the usual undead energy. It quacks like a duck and looks like a duck, but it's actually a goose. It is your shadow.

In 3.5 the shadow plane was not completely drenched in evil. Some areas were still untouched or even good. Shades from this area would be neutral or good aligned.

Don't mean to thread jack or advertise, but if your GM is up for some home grown material you might want to look at my shadowdancer variant Shadow Knight.
