Help me "optimize" my monk

Advice

Scarab Sages

When I say optimize what I mean is pick the best abilities. He won't be a combat beast or anything.

I want to play a halfling Ki Mystic Monk of the Lotus

I'm looking for feats and items that will make character decent. He's going to basically be aiding allies by flanking, neutralizing enemies, and helping allies reroll saves/attacks.

I want to take the lucky halfling feat.

I'm trying to find other feats, items, or ideas that will work with this character concept.

Any advise?

Your fighting an uphill battle to deal any damage due to lower strength and lower weapon damage dice as a Halfling. Thus, I suggest you emphasise the Lotus non-lethal side of the character. Give him 20 dex and agile maneuvers and you actually have a very potent grappler, tripper, disarmer or any other combat maneuver you want to be good at. Keep strength at 13 to qualify for the CMB feats such as grappling.

Halfling monks make particularily potent grapplers due to this FC.

Monk: Add +1 to the monk’s CMD when resisting a grapple and +1/2 to the number of stunning attacks he can attempt per day.

This means the DC to break out of your grapple (your CMD) can be massive when this is taken as FC each level. Add this with defensive combat training and you have a nimble halfling whose dextrous holds and pins are nigh impossible to escape- the AC bonuses from Monk as well as Wisdom ALSO contribute to CMD.

Stats wise- 7 int and 7 cha are my recommendations due to the massive MAD of the monk.

The first feat I would take with any monk would be toughness. The biggest problem with monk feats are most of the good ones require a BAB of +1. Toughness will give you on the average the same HP as a fighter, and as a monk you will take damage. This will also boost your survivability.

Dumping CHA for a Halfling Monk is fine, but I would not dump INT. There are too many skill you are going to want for that to work. Important skills are going to be Acrobatics, Climb, Perception, Stealth, and maybe Escape Artist. Other skills you will want at least a couple of ranks in will be Sense Motive and Swim. As a Ki Mystic you will also want to pickup Knowledge's and may want to take at least one trait that make them class skills.

The Main reason to bump Climb will be to qualify for Spider Step, and latter Cloud Step.

Your first Bonus Feat will of course be Improved Grapple, Next I would recommend Combat Reflexes to give lots of AOE. Pick up the trait Bullied to get a bonus on that.

Next Regular Feat would be Agile Maneuvers, Then Weapon Finesse .

This build should only be done with a high point buy, or good stats.

/Can't grapple large creatures as a halfling./ untrue?

EDIT: I thought you couldn't? I remember reading this somewhere. Where was it? I know the Brutal Pugilist counts as a size category larger for grappling, but, then, what's the point of that?

Remember that.

Can't trip large creatures as a halfling/bull rush large creatures/overrun large creatures.

You couldn't in 3.5, but the restriction was removed in Pathfinder. The Brutal Pugilist bonus basically gives you a +1 to your CMB and CMD for grapples.

This is right, though.

The combo of a wayfinder and a dusty rose prism Ioun Stone yields +2 to CMB and CMB....which certainly can't hurt your little Halfling grappler!
