I'll take the time to at least try to sabalize them. There is no honor in killing them now that they are defeated, and they are not our enemies per se. (Take 10, take 20?) I'll also leave a few rations for them, and offer to heal anyone that might need it, before we head in.
I'd also like to try to inspect them for anything out of the ordinary. Particlrly signs of "disciplining", training, or having a master, if I can.
DM Patcher
Soth-Loren only manages to save one dog; the other ones succumb to their wounds.
There is nothing in sight around the vicinity. The group pass the rubble to the front of the tower's ruined exterior. They see two doorways, one to the left, and one to the right. Inside both doorways is darkness. It also appears possible to climb up the ragged remains of the tower to the second floor.
The dogs are undoubtedly wild; there's no hint of ownership or training. They do, however, appear to have a den in the tower's lower floor. The dog does not wake up during the short time of your caretaking.

That's fine. I was pretty sure that they are just normal random encounters from the get go, I was more just trying to RP and have a little fun.
Feeling a little better for at least saving one of the beasts, and dropping an open rations in front of it, I'll start to head back to the group to continue the investigation. With luck, it will stll be there when I return and maybe I can have a pet.
Alerio of the Shadow
"Flip a coin tends to be the easy way to decide. Heads we go left." Alerio pulls out a coin and flips it into the air, then snatching it and slapping it onto the back of his hand.
Coin toss: 1d2 ⇒ 2, 1=heads.
Alerio shrugs, slips the coin back into his pouch, and moves to the right door to peer in, searching for signs of danger or traps.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19; +1 vs. traps
DM Patcher
Upon closer examination, the western wing is filled entirely with rubble; traversing it is nigh impossible. The eastern wing of the tower seems to have escaped the worst effects of the collapse, but rubble still litters the floor and everything is covered in a thick layer of stone dust. Thick cobwebs cloak the ceiling and hang down the walls like gossamer tapestries. A single archway stands open in the northwest wall.
Alerio finds no contraptions, traps or signs of danger during his swift search in the eastern room.
Please give me the order in which you enter the room.
Soth-Loren the Raven Knight

I'll follow, unless Anath would prefer to go ahead. It doesn't much matter to me. I'll also go ahead and sheath my sword, but keep my shield at the ready.
In ase needed, Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8, with Darkvision 60ft.
I'm not trying particularly hard to be sneaky, though, Stealth: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (16) + 0 = 16
DM Patcher
1(Alerio): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
2(Alerio): 1d100 ⇒ 56
3(Anath): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
4(Alerio): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
5(Anath): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Alerio and Anath enter the room; the darkness leaves little to the imagination, yet there is nothing in sight. As they step into the centre of the room, both Anath and Alerio get covered in thick, sticky webs. Fifteen feet above the group, a large spider the size of a man, and a smaller, but identical, kin, are skittering on webs. They are poised to attack.
Round 1, GO!
Alerio and Anath, you are entangled. You need to do a strength check or an escape artist check to break out of it.
Keep in mind that the spiders are also 15 feet above the ground, so you cannot reach them until they get down to you.
Initiative order
1. Godwin
2. Soth-Loren
3. Anath
4. Alerio
5. Will
6. Spiders
Alerio: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Anath: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Godwin: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Soth-Loren: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Medium Spider: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Small Spider: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Note: Knowledge skill checks cannot be taken untrained.
These are scaleback spiders, known to make nests in dark places. They are also rare in the Cairnlands. You have no clue why they are here, but you do know their bite contains strength-sapping venom.
Soth-Loren the Raven Knight

On Init 2, Soth-Loren will cast Shield of Faith and draw his blade. If I will not step into the webs by doing so, I will also 5ft step closer.
"Don't worry! We will get you out of there."
Will of the Hundred Scars
is it possible to maneuver in the room without being caught up in webs? if so Will moves under the spiders and casts color spray (will dc 15 negates) at the spiders. if not, he readies an action to cast color spray on them both as soon as they are in range. for reference
2 HD or less: The creature is unconscious, blinded, and stunned for 2d4 rounds, then blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds, and then stunned for 1 round. (Only living creatures are knocked unconscious.)
3 or 4 HD: The creature is blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds, then stunned for 1 round.
5 or more HD: The creature is stunned for 1 round.
Soth-Loren the Raven Knight
|
On whom will you cast Shield of Faith?
Myself. I am not sure if I can reach or touch anyone else without risking getting caught, so I am not going to risk it yet.
Also, in case it comes to my turn again and for some reason everyone is waiting on me, I plan on either Aiding Another to help Alerio and Anath escape, or otherwise try to help them out/keep them alive.
DM Patcher
Since Alerio has not posted in 24 hours, I will do his action for him.
Godwin rushes forward, past his webbed comrades, attempting to throw a dagger at the spiders; he misses and hits the ceiling three feet away. Soth-Loren fills the air with a swift chant of the divine, as he is enclosed with the protective energy of Iomedae.
Both Anath and Alerio tear out of their webs without any problems as Will runs up underneath the spiders, chanting his spell. The spray of colours, however, does not seem to affect them in the slightest.
Alerio's Escape Artist roll to break out of the webs: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
The spiders, however, agitated by the chanting, again fling webs; Soth-Loren's magical armour deflects the webbing, but Will is entangled by the spider's threads.
Large spider, ranged touch attack VS Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Small spider, ranged touch attack VS Soth-Loren: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Round 2, begin! Will, you are currently entangled. Anath and Alerio, you are no longer entangled.
Initiative order
1. Godwin
2. Soth-Loren
3. Anath
4. Alerio
5. Will
6. Spiders
DM Patcher
Anath, you cannot reach the spiders currently as they are still 15 feet up in the air. On the ceiling. I'll allow you to change your action until Alerio posts or the next seven hours, whichever happens first.
Godwin throws another dagger up into the ceiling, barely missing the spider this time. Will struggles to get out of the web, and even with Soth-Loren's help he remains unsuccessful. One of the spiders look poised to pounce.
Will wait until Alerio posts before continuing.
DM Patcher
That's all right, Anath. Since Alerio hasn't posted yet, I assume he is having some difficulties IRL.
Alerio scoots off close to the wall, notching an arrow and launching it at the big spider; he only scratches the carapace of the spider, who doesn't pay notice to the fetchling.
Alerio's attack roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Alerio's damage roll: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Both the spiders drop down from the ceiling, launching an assault at Will. Anath doesn't manage to react in time, and the spider manages to dodge the man's fierce assault. The small spider struggles to bite through the man's flesh, but the big spider buries its fangs into Will's thigh.
Big spider's bite attack roll: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Big spider's bite damage roll: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Small spider's bite attack roll: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Small spider's bite damage roll: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
Will, please roll a fortitude save. You are still entangled.
Round 3 has begun! Please post your actions.

I'll try to pry my sword inbetween Will and the attacker, using it trying to push the spider away and slashing it's underside along the way.
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
DM Patcher
Alerio seems to have gone missing, and as such I will handle all his actions until he returns. Soth-Loren, I moved you two squares to the right in accord with your action.
Godwin successfully stabs the spider through its carapace, yet for the small shriek it unleashes it is still alive. Soth-Loren diverts the small spider's attention from Will yet fails to land a proper blow; Anath presses forward, but like Soth-Loren, he also fails to wound the spider. Their distraction does give Will the opportunity to break free of his web.
Alerio notches another arrow and fires at Godwin's target; his arrow successfully goes through the spider's carapace and it again lets out a shriek.
Alerio's attack roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Alerio's damage roll: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
The spiders, both agitated now, launch assaults; the big spider goes for Godwin, and the small one aims for Soth-Loren. The godling successfully dodges the spider's fierce assault, yet Soth-Loren is overwhelmed by the small spider's reflexes and suffers a bite to his hand.
Big spider's bite attack roll: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Big spider's bite damage roll: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Small spider's bite attack roll: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Small spider's bite crit confirmation roll: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Small spider's bite damage roll: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0
Forgot to mention, but Will, you suffered 5 points of damage, which puts you at 1; Soth-Loren, you suffered 1 point of damage. Please roll a fortitude save.
Round 4, go! Please post your actions.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
"We need to finish these little buggers quickly", before Will (or myself) fall.
I will assume the fighting stance of the falcon, raising my blade high with a more sturdy gait, and swinging from an upward arc like a bird of prey swooping for the kill. . .
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
DM Patcher
Alerio is still missing, and it's been over 24 hours since Will posted. As such I will dictate both their characters' actions. Also, I assume you enter the fray with the big spider, Soth-Loren.
Godwin delivers another strike straight into the spider's carapace, harming it further. Alerio takes this opportunity to notch another arrow, aiming carefully...his arrow scratches the carapace of the spider and hits the wall behind.
Alerio's attack roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Alerio's damage roll: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Anath delivers a decisive blow to the smaller spider's body, cleaving it in half; it lets out a final wail before collapsing, its legs stiffening in a nauseating way. Soth-Loren advances to fight off the big spider, though the spider dodges, only barely, the raven knight's swoop.
Will steps away, trying to stay on his feet. The big spider launches an assault at Godwin, though the godling has no problems dodging the spider's attack; it is clear that the creature is weakened.
Big spider's bite attack roll: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Big spider's bite damage roll: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Round 5, go! The small spider has been slain! Soth-Loren, if you prefer that I do not take the liberty of moving your character, feel free to say so.
Initiative order
1. Godwin

No, it's perfectly fine. The first time I had intended to and forgot to write it in. I am going to hold my action until just before Will's, to try to heal, hoping the spider might be dead by then.
Soth-Loren the Raven Knight

Wanting to heal Will before he falls, but not wanting to risk undoing all the harm that has been done to the beast, Soth-Loren decides to attack again.
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 <and fails. . .>
DM Patcher
Will and Alerio are still missing. Does anybody know what happened to them?
Godwin delivers a precise strike to the spider's carapace, yet he doesn't quite manage to finish it off. Despite the advantage, neither Soth-Loren or Anath manage to utilise the spider's weakened defences. Their continued assault, however, allows Alerio to land a perfect shot. The spider rolls over, its legs stiffening - at last, it is dead.
Alerio's attack roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Alerio's damage roll: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
What do you do?
Will of the Hundred Scars
Sorry guys, weekends are sometimes problematic for me to get posts in. alerio is actually running a game that i'm also playing in and he hasn't posted anything over there recently either. not sure what's going on in rl for him
Will sighs a bit as he examines his bite wounds. "Didn't expect quite so many intimate wildlife encounters."
He points his finger at his temple and a silver light shoots out.
fires of heaven 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
"Who else is hurt?"
Soth-Loren the Raven Knight

After I make sure the spiders are actualy dead, (not just down), I guess I will go ahead and wash everyone in the holy healing rain (channel energy). I can't remember if anyone else took any damage.
Channel Positive Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 4 (everyone within 30 ft)
I also just noticed that I posted under the wrong character above. . . Sorry, I was at work and trying to post from my phone.
DM Patcher
As Godwin peers around the webs, he finds a cocoon with a less than pleasing smell. Inside you find the desiccated carcass of a dog, and around its half-eaten neck, a collar studded with blue gems. The silver tag has the name Kita engraved.
The north-western door is still shrouded in darkness; there is barely any light cast into the room from the entrance of the eastern wing.
