In this week's article on Intelligence Check, my Pathfinder blog, I talk about the problems with the magic item economy in Kingmaker's kingdom building rules, and offer a tailored rule and several suggestions on how to fix it.

It's the Magic Item Economy, Stupid!

This had been one thing that bugged me about KM (and really, all of 3.x). When I get to my KM game, I will probably use something like this. Thanks.

not bad. As I'm not quite there yet with my group I will wait to see if they will try to min max. If so I'll put a kabash to their plans pronto.

I will certainly be using this. Thank you very much, comrade.

Well, I don't know if eliminating the funds from the magic item economy completely works out well in the long run. There are wars to be fought in the future of the AP, after all, and those wars cost immense amounts of money.

There was that suggestion by Erik Freund to substitute that income by making resources like mines ore rare materials to be suppliers of high BP incomes, instead of them giving a measly +1 to the economy score. He hasn't shared the details of how he allocated those resources, so I guess I'll be doing my own version on my own in the next weeks. I'll give out details when I am ready.

I'm all for it.

Bear in mind that the method I posted doesn't eliminate the funds from liquidating magic items. Rather, it limits PCs to selling magic items that they themselves own, and it requires an escalating check to do based on the cost of the item (so PCs can't unload exceptionally powerful items while running a tiny little country).
