I once had a binder in v3.5 who was great fun to play. Now I want to bring him over to Pathfinder as a summoner, but I'm trying to determine the best way to go about it. Rather than tell you about his "build" I'm going to tell you about the character. I hope the advice you give me can help me rebuild the concept.
Clothing: Saimon wears a bronze mask to better conceal the twisted expressions forced upon him by the vestiges he most commonly binds. He also wears a large scarf around his neck and mouth to catch the constant drool draining from his opened throat. The rest of his garments are little more than dirty rags.[/b]
Personality: Saimon is a mysterious warrior who rarely speaks unless spoken to. Although friendly and kind, he distances himself from others in hopes of keeping his true nature as a binder hidden.
It is Saimon’s belief that vestiges are evil fiends who possess their victims. He also considers binding itself to be an act of great evil—an act that corrupts the soul of the binder and creates an addiction to its power (an addiction to which he has succumbed).
It is because of these personal beliefs that Saimon has become a manically depressed individual who constantly feels he is not doing enough in the world to make a difference—to save his own corrupted soul from damnation. To this end, he is constantly trying to prove his worth both to himself and to the world at large.
History/Background: Saimon is a mysterious warrior who learned long ago how to utilize his speed and agility to fell foes rather than brute strength. He was once a simple hunter in a small village living a normal life with his wife and children.
One day, he was sent out by the village elders to find food in preparation for the coming winter season. Whilst on his expedition he was separated from his hunting party and wondered into a vast cave complex in pursuit of a large bear. The bear, more knowledgeable of the caverns than the hunter, circled around Saimon, leapt out from hiding, and mauled him causing many near-fatal injuries. Saimon’s comrades never found their friend, and he was given up for lost.
Lying on the cold dungeon floor on the verge of death for several days Saimon fought for his life, but was ever so slowly slipping into a calming darkness. Suddenly, on the brink of oblivion, an old hermit happened upon him. The hermit performed a dark ritual, summoning a horrible fiend—a strange conglomeration of a horrific hag, a raging lion, and a dancing satyr, before selling his soul to the fiend in return for saving Saimon’s life. At least, that’s what it appeared to Saimon.
Unable to leave the cavern due to lack of strength and the winter raging outside, Saimon lived with the crazed hermit deep in the bowls of the cavern for several weeks. While there, Saimon was forced to survive off of small underground streams and sick, grounded, bats for sustenance.
The old hermit died before Saimon could really learn anything more about him. Alone and delirious from a growing fever Saimon wondered the caverns further. In his brief explorations he stumbled upon a hidden library filled with dozens of tomes detailing dark ritualistic summoning. While going through the musty old tomes, he suddenly collapsed momentarily. Fearing he was dying from infection, Saimon followed the instructions in one tome to bring forth a vestige. He made a pact with the summoned to save his mortal body in exchange for binding the entity to his very soul. Finding the procedure surprisingly simple, Saimon accomplished the ritual admirably and used his newfound vigor and strength to leave the cave and return to his village.
Upon arriving back home, the villagers saw Saimon’s many scars, ragged garb, and supernatural deformities (unfortunate side-effects of his pact) and ran from him in fear. To Saimon’s horror, the villagers thought him to be a demonic abomination that had come to inhabit Saimon’s corpse. In the end, it was Saimon’s own loved ones who drove him from the village with flung stones and pointed pitchforks.
Saimon has since traveled the world as an adventurer seeking out and rescuing other persecuted binders. Despite his belief that binders are evil, he is convinced that they may be the only ones who can show him how to redeem his soul. Ironically, his many adventures have given him much renown as the unofficial champion of binders everywhere.
