Any interest in Master of the Fallen Fortress?

Gamer Connection

I'm new to DMing over a forum, but I figure at some point I should try it. Stomphoof showed me the free module Master of the Fallen Fortress, which seems introductionary and I have run campaigns in the past (albeit in real life), so it should be a fun experience for me. And... hopefully for whoever dares to volunteer.

So... I'm looking for four players interested in trying this out. I won't do this first-come first-serve, and the process will be a little slow in the beginning, so bear with me while I try to figure out how to DM properly. Anybody can apply. I might expand to five players if desired, or even make two campaigns if there's a lot of interested applicants (though I will not promise this, in case it becomes too difficult).

So... who's interested?

Shadow Lodge

I'll throw my name into the ring. I have a few characters already made who haven't seen action that I could give a shot (with some background adjustments), or I could put together a fresh character. I've been curious about playing Monk recently. I'll put one together and post back here when that character is ready for consideration. Any particular rules on character creation?

I'm interested. Only thing is, I don't currently own any books, have no dice here with me, or know anything really about the Pathfinder System, other than my last DM swore by Paizo, and when Pahtfinder came out, he told me to buy everything. Still, I am willing to throw myself out there for the whims and fancies of a new DM. Just let me know what I am looking for at my local Borders bookstore, and I will get a character up as fast as possible. I, like jlighter before me, would like to know any rules concerning character generation. Puh-lease!!

Spoiler:
Pardon the testing here. Never did know how to use these until now. Time to try it out..4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4, 6) = 22

Actually you just need this website:

The Pathfinder SRD

It literally has all the core rules + stuff in the advanced players guide. Have at it.

I'll go with some basic rules for the creation process:

1. 20-point buy.
2. No evil characters without a very good reason. Alignment won't matter too much, though, as long as you players make characters who actually get along.
3. Core and APG auto-approved. If there are alternate traits, weapons, feats and the like from other supplements, run it by me for approval.
4. 2 traits.
5. I don't think this module advances beyond 1st level (it's an introductionary one), but if it does, hit dice will be rolled, and if it's below average, you get average.

...I think that works for guidelines.

Hmm. I've got an idea for a celestial sorcerer I've been kicking around in the back of my head. Any particular deadline for builds?

I'll put up a deadline for Monday, so all interested players should have their characters finished by then.

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16, 2011 Top 32

Would you allow a human clever godling character? At 1st level it's basically a rogue who gets a single clerical domain instead of the rogue package. The idea is that he's got the blood of a god, possibly as a mortal child of a descendent of Cayden Cailean (or one of his illegitimate children..)

What do you think? If you need more information, I'd be happy to provide.

I would need more info on it before I allow it. How does it compare to other base classes in a roleplaying environment? What powers and abilities does it have? How do they fare with groups?

Shadow Lodge

I'd like to give PbP another try. Try a Cleric (again), but would like to wait to see what others go with more specifically.

So far looking at a NG or likely CG Cleic, Desna maybe. Want to see what others cover first.

Any suggestions for character creation?

Are all Traits allowed?

As of right now, the current players interested are:

jlighter
In-Shearamah
angryscrub
James Martin
Beckett

You can still apply, of course. As mentioned, this is not first-come first-serve, and the deadline is Monday at 13:00 (GMT+1).

I'll repeat the rules for character generation.

1. 20-point buy.
2. No evil alignment, unless given a good reason.
3. Core Rulebook and Advanced Player's Guide automatically approved. Supplements need to be run by me specifically for approval.
4. You can select two traits.
5. Write a small background for the character. It doesn't have to be novel-length.

As for how and why the characters travel together, we can discuss this in the OOC thread when the players have been selected.

@Beckett: Traits from APG are automatically approved. If you want something from a supplement, I need to check what it does beforehand. Unless it's very broken, though, I'll probably approve it.

Shadow Lodge

Ok, I was just checking. I didn't really have anything in mind specifically, but when I use Hero Lab, it doesn't tell me right of if it is a APG Trait or from another book until I specify that one.

It's a medium BAB, d8 hit die, good Reflex and Will saves. Skills are 6 + Int and are pretty wide ranging, comparable to rogue. At first level they get access to the powers, but not spells of a single clerical domain. At second level they get a divine trait rank, which gives them access to a power, which I plan to take as Shapeshifter 1. This gives you the ability to have a single alternate form, as alter self or beast shape 1 that lasts for 1 min/ godling level 1/day plus 1 additional time per 5 levels of godling. At 3rd level you get a Scion talent, which is akin to a rogue talent.

All in all, it's probably equivalent to a rogue with a more "divine" flavor, to reflect the deific lineage. If you want, I can whip the character up and put him in a spoiler so you can check him out.

It doesn't sound too broken. If it isn't too much of a hassle, please make the character so I can review him. As long as the power balance isn't excessively distorted, though, it shouldn't be a problem.

Description Godwin is an attractive blond man with a goatee and scar across his left cheek. He's slim and tall and wears several daggers around his person. He's usually laughing and has a tattoo of a broken chain on his left forearm, a symbol of his hatred for slavery.
Background Godwin grew up in Almas, the son of a sometime whore and barmaid named Reanna. All his life his mother, who was quite beautiful, swore that Cayden Cailean was his father, concieved when the god visited Almas in person. Godwin believed this, hook, line and sinker, despite being beaten by the local bullies for saying so. Still, he grew into a handsome man and aspired to join the Eagle Knights, at least until he was caught practicing his lock-picking skills on a merchant's money-box. He fled justice and set sail on the first ship he could find, which happened to be headed to Absalom...

I can't see anything overpowered with that. On the contrary, it almost seems underwhelming, like a rogue with no sneak attack. Granted, immunity to slows, grapples and the like is very efficient and certainly adds flavour.

I assume the unique aspects of a Godling shows up at level 2+, but for now I'll approve the use of godlings.

Shadow Lodge

The Godling class is available as a cheap PDF from Genius Guides. It was $3, I think? It's an interesting class, and they have a bunch of others. A few people I've showed them to seem to think they net out as slightly underpowered.

Even at $3, I can't purchase it to actually check it out at the moment due to particular difficulties.

Shadow Lodge

Ah. I know that feeling. Well, it was just a thought if you wanted to look at it.

I'm interested. Haven't tried PF rules yet, but I've been wanting to give it a try as a player. Do we need to have the character ready by the deadline?

I got the PDF for the Godling class Patcher if you want to discuss it sometime. I can give ya a rundown of it.

I will be running a Halfling Druid. I will get all stats and whatnot up over tonight and tomorrow after I get off work. I will be working on it most of tonight. Post in the morrow when I am done at work.

Preferably, yes, but if this isn't plausible for you, then I can potentially hold a spot open, or eventually run two modules simultaneously.

It's OK, I'll try to have it ready today, I just need to freshen out in PF rules a bit.

If you need help, don't hesitate to ask. Try to use www.d20pfsrd.com, it has all the rules.

alright, got the character mostly done. everything should be fine, but let me know if i've missed anything majorly wrong.

also, just want to say, if it comes down to between me and jlighter, pick him since he was kind enough to run a carrion crown pbp and let me in it.

Well, it pains me to say this, but I must drop out for now. But I will be following this. Thanks for the consideration, but suddenly, time will not allow me. Thanks anyways Patcher.

To what level are you planning to take this RP? Is it going to be set in Golarion?

This is a module set for 1st-level characters, and I haven't thought about going beyond the module. If people really get along, enjoy the roleplay and my DMing, then I might run another module (to get into it) or even dare jump into an adventuring path which is a much longer campaign (as far as I know) that spans until the end-game. Although this is very unlikely. This is mostly to test my online DMing skills, but continuing with modules afterwards as follow-ups is not out of the question.

And yes, this will be in Golarion. I quite enjoy the setting.

Shadow Lodge

This is Beckett's character for approval. The only thing I think I did outside of the "auto" approved catagories was go with the Assimar race

(Bestiary 1, +2 Wis and Cha, Dayligh 1/Day, Acid, Cold, and Electricity Resist 5, +2 Diplomacy and Perception).

I need to finish up the gear, (basic stuff), and Character background, but otherwise I think I am done.

Aasimar works fine. I would prefer that you don't overplay the celestial aspect of your heritage, but I won't tell you what you can or can't do (unless your personality breaks up the party, but I think that's a given).

The character looks good otherwise, no problems.

Here's jlighter's character. It's half-done. The only oddity so far is playing a Fetchling. I'll have the equipment and background done later today (currently 4PM PST). And please, take Will over me if it comes to that. I can always hold out for another PBP or a wait-list.

Haha, you guys aren't making it easy for me. So many different non-core races.

Fetchlings are fine and your character looks fine too.

haha. so far it looks like we have submitted

me, the human celestial sorcerer
alerio, the fetchling starsoul sorcerer
soth-loren, the aasimar cleric
godwin, the human clever godling

i'm really curious to see what mos anted will submit, because as it stands, we are going to be in some serious trouble when it comes to melee. heh.

Worry not, I'm working on a Cavalier character. It's taken me a while since this is my first shot at a PF char though. Still, it should not be long.

Whew! Finally, this is my (Mos Anted's) finished char. Tell me if there's anything that needs changing.

Shadow Lodge

I can shift things around and make a Rogue. I'm pretty sure I have a few already constructed that I'd just need to make a page for. Shall I shift Alerio around to a Rogue instead of a Sorcerer? It will take minutes, so don't worry about how long it would take. A background would be the longest part, and I haven't quite put that up yet, just fleshed out the equipment and traits and whatnot.

Shadow Lodge

Here's the alternate version of Alerio. I would have included it in the last post, but I left it slightly to late to do the conversion work and the 1 hour limit passed, so I had to do it in a new post.

Only half an hour before the deadline.

@Mos Anted: That looks fine, don't see anything wrong with the sheet or the character.
@jlighter: The rogue seems fine. It shouldn't make a difference whether you play a sorcerer or a rogue if you get picked.

Alright, so the deadline is here, and I've decided to go with all five applicants for this, who are as follows:

jlighter - Alerio of the Shadow
angryscrub - Will of the Hundred Scars
Beckett - Soth-Loren the Raven Knight
James Martin - Godwin Cailean
Mos Anted - Anath Matteus

Link to the OOC Discussion thread is here

Applicants are now closed, and I'll see you players in the discussion topic!
