OK here is the question:
1. If I am a caster and in a dead magic zone can I cast a ranged spell as long as the effect is outside of the dead magic zone?
2. Alternatively if I am outside the DMZ can I cast a spell into the dead magic zone?
Just wondering which way it works as the party I dm for is going into an area tonight.
- Thanks Lost

No and no.
1. The spell originates in the same square as the caster, thus if the caster is in a MDZ he can't cast it because he cannot draw upon magic to finish the spell.
2. No, a dead magic zone is the same as the anti-magic zone except that it cannot be destroyed by certain spells. Magic doesn't exist there. There is nothing to power it in there, thus it winks out.
It would be the same as asking can you turn on a TV inside an area under a constant EMP effect. Or trying to use a TV in a house with no power plugs.

After looking through and reading things on Anti magic field, I would agree that
1. will work as it does not say you can not cast spells in an anti-magic field. It just states that spells EFFECTS will not function within its confines.
2. definately wont work.
So If I throw a spell outside of it, it should be fine.

I have also come to the conclusion that INSTANTANIOUS spells will not work either.
But, Acid Arrow would, as it is not casting time Instantanious.

Acid arrow would work if cast from outside of an antimagic field and into it because it isn't powered by magic when the casting is done. You could cast a spell without the duration of instantaneous from inside of antimagic field, but it would not start actually working unless you left the field.
But, a dead magic field doesn't suppress magic. No magic exists within a dead magic field.
[qote]A dead magic zone is a zone of anti-magic or null-magic and disables enchantments or prevents spells from being maintained or cast. [/qoute]
