This will be the out of character discussion thread for The Black Phoenix. Let the game begin!

Roger McCuen: Human Monk
Voem Cubskel: Human Fighter
Connor O’Hoolihan: Half-Elven Ranger
Dieter Stolzdorf: Human Bard
Kale Porter: Elemental Sorcerer- Water
Cousin Schmitty: Halfling Rogue

You want use to post those stories in the IC thread or here or what?
EDIT: Went ahead and just posted something in the IC thread. LETS GET THIS PARTY STARTED.

I am unclear as to what you mean when you say stories. If you mean backgrounds, I would like you to include them in your character profiles.
Also please look at my profile. I have several gameplay conventions I would like everyone to follow. Look under the "house rules" spoiler and note the bit about what types of text to use when. I would like people to use bold for spoken, italics for thoughts, and normal for actions.

Thats the story I am referring to. Do you want that in the profile?
And I missed the bold bit. I always use Italics for thoughts though. I will bold my speech from now on :)

Yes, please simply tack it on to the end of your background stories. Also note my comments to all about profile organization. Spoilers make for much easier navigation, and can be quite helpful simply in breaking up information blocks. Note how I have organized my character. This of course is not compulsory, just a suggestion for easier user interface.

Note that this is only because I don't feel that deft dodger quite fits with your growing up in a temple. Also, if you didn't notice on the perception checks, the DC 20 includes Darkvision and Low-light vision, so you don't even need to roll!

AN IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL PLAYERS:
In summer, I will be spending some time away. This will be a time in which we stop gameplay, and it will last roughly eight weeks. This time will be used for you all to level up your characters. You may, during that time, add any benefits your experience points grant your characters, and you may choose to do this by training, etc. For example, a ranger may want to train an animal companion. This would be the time to do this. I will keep you all updated as the time draws nearer. Until then, we will play normally. We will be using the fast progression, so required second level XP is 1,300. We will get as far as possible between now and July, when I am leaving.

Game played the darkvision, so it doesn't make too much difference...sometimes its just getting used to the way we work the game. Really liked the starting text....good job.
Oh yes, made the change you asked for....

@Schmitty: Please also indicate what check you are making. For instance, this but spell "dice" correctly.
Stealth: [dicee] 1d20 +3 [/dicee]
Please check out the BBCode tags on the bottom of the post entry box as well.

Haha I know :P I like to help is all.
I am gonna wait for Daemon and our Half Orc Friend to post before I do again. We are moving things along quickly without those two.

I'd like to make sure everyone is still on board before we proceed. Please post agan if you haven't already and I will continue with the story.
I will be around till about 11pm EST tonight. So about 2 hour 15 minutes more :)
If needed you can NPC stuff if it gets into combat. I will post here if that happens Darkthorne.

This is my trait.
Canter(Campaign): You grew up among thieves and scoundrels, and their unusual speech patterns and turns of phrase don't faze you in the slightest today as a result. Anyone who attempts to use Bluff to deliver a secret message to you gains a +5 bonus on his Bluff check. When you attempt to intercept a secret message using Sense Motive, you gain a +5 trait bonus on the attempt.
So, Conner is trying to send a message and gets a +5 to the roll for purposes of sending it to me.
Additionally I get a +5 to intercept it.
Is that right?

A note about spoilers and checks:
If I put things in a spoiler, it means that only cerain people can view them. If I make a Spoiler that says "DC 15 Perception check", everyone should roll a perception check and if you get 15 or higher, you may look. You may also talk about things you see in a spoiler out loud to let other characters know.
If you need to tell me something that the other characters should not or would not know, plese also use a spoiler. An example of this is if the party ever splits up. Of course, it can also be played that the other players know what is going on, but the characters themselves should not know if they are not told.
@Cousin Schmitty: This is more if you want to pass a secret message between characters or decipher a message being passed between two NPCs. Secret messages would normally be put into a spoiler also, and the difficulty (DC) would be determined by the complexity of the message to be passed. Also, both the giver and the eceiver would need to make checks. Please refer to the core rulebook on page 91 for more information.
In this case, Connor doesn't really have any message he wants to convey. if he did he would have needed to write it somewhere. Also, please try to say something that alludes to your motive without letting the guard (or whoever you want to deceive) know.

I think I'm doing that correctly with the secret message Bluff check.
| DM Darkthorne |
For an example, I have two characters:
Character A: Hey, Character B, why don't yougo see what our friend is up to? (Bluff Check DC 10) Spoiler: [go spy on the guy in the corner who we talked about before!]
Character C: (Sense motive check rolls a 7) Hey, what are you talking about?
Character B: (Sense motive check rolls a 13) [He reads the spoiler] Oh, yeah! *wink* I'll go do that!

Just so you know, I post when we're awake in the UK.
At the moment Tuesday evening is my RL games night, with the possibility of Thursday nights too (hopefully, me and my wife don't quite see eye to eye on this).
Otherwise I normally post during the day, currently GMT+1 and in the evenings too when I get a chance. Weekends sometimes get full with family stuff.....but I will be posting..if I can keep up with the reading... :).

@Schmitty: If you would like to check if you can steal something, please make a perception check and I will tell you if you see anything.
Also, when you edit your profile, make sure you only list the languages you can speak currently.
Perception check made.
Those are the languages I currently speak.
Linguistics +6(+1 rank,+3 Class skill,+2 Int)
Taken at first level
Languages
Free:Common, Halfling,
From Skill:Dwarven, Elven, Gnome, Goblin, Terran, Undercommon
Undercommon is a stretch, but whatever the common language of the darklands/underdark is in your world. I just wasn't sure what to put for the last slot.
Is there something I have misinterpreted?
Edit: replaced the perception calculation with the correct linguistics one.
| Stomphoof |
As far as I know you get a bonus language per point of Int Bonus (a +3 gives you 3 bonus languages) which must be chosen from the available bonus languages of your race.
After that, each single rank in Linguistics gives you one more language.
So if you are a halfling, with a +3 Int Mod and 1 Rank of Linguistics, you should prolly have Common and Halfling (Starting Languages), 3 languages from this list (Dwarven, Elven, Gnome, and Goblin), and then 1 more language for Linguistics (1 language per rank)

My int is 14 (+2) and I have one rank. Three languages after my free ones (common and halfling).
I've always addes a language for the Class bonus. I realize this was a mistake, but honesltly it's a non issue. I corrected my languages.
My currently spoken languages are:
Common, Halfling, Dwarven, Elven, Goblin.

Sorry for not commenting till now, I slept late. Is there a way to make it so that I get an email each time someone posts in a certain thread?
Not that I have seen, which sucks. It would be nice to subscribe to a thread as well as PM functionality but neither is available :(
And its cool. You are now sitting in a courtroom. HAVE FUN! :P

I work and go to school full time. I am usually able to post first thing in the morning and after class for a few hrs then I have more class and I can post for a few more hours before I have to go to sleep.
My basic schedule is 1 hr to post in the morning, 9 hrs work/school, 2 hrs post 2-3 hrs school, 2-3 hrs post. so for the 9 hr block in the middle of the day dont expect much from me unless I get off early. weekends I am pretty much free all day.
I dont mind if you advance the story while I am gone I will just roll with whatever comes up, just try not to get me stuck in a bind i cant get out of ;)
