they have said they would like to. but there are basically security issues they cannot solve I'n ebook format that PDF can. it's a shame given how slow PDF can be on tablets. but makes sense fir control of their product.
No kidding - I bought the Inner City PDF which was around 150MB and slow as molasses on my iPad so as to be practically unusable. It would be nice at least to have reduced quality PDFs as an option for download which would probably speed up things significantly.

The problem is not security—the problem is that eBook formats were designed for text-heavy books that don't rely heavily on illustrations, and that means those formats just don't work very well with books that have strong graphic elements, such as all of our Pathfinder gaming products. For these books, the PDF format remains unmatched, so the best way to view our gaming books on your portable device is to find a good PDF viewer for your device, and purchase our PDFs.
Our Pathfinder Tales fiction line, though, works very well as an eBook; Pathfinder Tales are being released in both ePub and PDF formats.

What about dropping the picures, (minus maps or graphs) for just text ebooks? I have all the Pathfinder tales, and they are great, but the PDFs are not to great on my Nook.
Oh I stand Corrected then, and here i thought i was being all helpful to the Op. I actually hav eno real issues with how PDF render on my IPAd it is a little slow but i can live with it.
Thogh i freely Admit being able to turn the pages as fast as a book remains a bit of a fantasy for me in the back of my Mind.

Honestly, even getting non-graphic things like tables and stat blocks to work well in eBooks is difficult and time-consuming. Also, somebody would also have to spend time deciding which images are essential, and which can be taken out. Ultimately, we're not terribly interested in presenting our products in anything less than the best possible format, especially if it takes a lot of extra work to do so.

Very true. I recently purchased the Nook Color o take with me on deployment specifically for my gaming books. It works well enough, and I hear a soon to come update may further help with PDFs. Like I said, the Paizo ones seem to be the big issue just because of all the petties. Not even my medical text books take so long to load, though both have some issues with the zoom and page moving.

Max load time for a page in the ISWG is about 5 sec, and usually it is quite a bit faster then that.

My main issues with books like this is that it tends to take a while to load a page, but i also tend to have issues at times with the zooming and page focusing. Paizos PDF materials just seem the worst because of their high detail and many pictures. I can live with it.
Irecently got the Ipad2 and can report that it functions great for the Paizo pdf's. There is some intial loadtimes but they are nominal and will only get better. In other words I reach for the Ipad over the books now.
I am hoping for a paizo store app at some point. Awesome way to market and yet another way to get folks product updates in real time.
Have a great Friday aool

My Motorola Xoom renders 'fairly' quickly, though I notice a big difference depending on which program is used. Quickoffice seems to be the fastest, though Adobe Acrobat for Android Honeycomb isn't out yet. It's fine for reading, but pretty brutal for browsing/searching for a specific thing in the book (easier to do a word search, I guess).

Have you tried ezPDF ($0.99) or RepliGo ($4.99) yet? I found exPDF much easier to use than the Adobe Reader, and faster as well. I've heard nice things about RepliGo but haven't tried it yet as the cost seems high for a PDF reader. Aldiko is nice since it stacks all the PDFs in a bookshelf view for easy browsing.

I bought RepliGo, and it works fine, though for some reason Quickoffice (bundled with the Xoom) works faster (noticably faster). I haven't tried ezPDF yet, though <checks reviews> somebody claims it has poor Xoom support for landscape mode. I'll probably check it out once it gets updated for Honeycomb.

I'd like to see a version with far FEWER illustrations. When I'm using a rulebook on my Kindle or even on my pc, I'm not doing it for the pretty pictures. I'm doing it because there is a rule or a feature I need to look up. I use the pdfs on my pc a reference for preparing adventures or character creation. All the heavy graphics do is make it a frustrating process. I don't even bother trying to put them on my Kindle, I'm not that much of a masochist.
