As my previous character just died (and I had expected it) I've been looking to make a new character..
What I'm thinking of doing is a bard who is called something along the lines of "The dread pirate roberts". Basically he carries a scary title even though he isn't the real one.
I'm looking for a weapon that can be crazy scary looking (and its mechanics reflect its scaryness) or otherwise be tied to his whole persona of being the "dread pirate".
(ON a side note, I'm looking for a better title too. Something that sounds scary but isn't really a rip off or just lame sounding. I'm thinking of the Devil of Sandpoint or something like that. Character pretty much always has information on everyone. )

Just to be clear, you're more interested in how badass it LOOKS than in the mechanics of it, correct? I'm assuming his STR isn't htat impressive, so two-handed weapons are right out. I'd say a scimitar or a falcata. Yeah, I know, exotic weapon... but exotic badass looking, so there is that. Curves or extra spikey bits or anything that just plain looks obscure or exotic is gonna impress the unwashed.

Isn't there some sort of feat that went along with spiked chain?
Well two that I've thought of was the scorpion whip or the Falcata. The whip cause it does normal damage, while still being a whip. The falcata because of its 19-20/x3 crit.
I think the whip might have more use if I could some how get my DM to allow me to use it like a garrote with the trait "prehensile whip" amongst taking a number of combat maneuver feats to go with it. (Trip, steal, disarm.)

That might be okay.. but my str isn't the best for those things. (which is a problem with the falcata)
Another one I did see while looking at that sword was a bladed scarf.
While not inherently a dangerous looking weapon, I could go all prince of Persia with it. Also I'd think the initial attack would be pretty unsettling, just imagine watching your buddy suddenly have a huge gash in him from what looks like a simple cloth. Still the same features as a whip, but loses 5 feet.
Arg, I hate when I do this to myself.
So far, I'm deciding between the chain, whip and scarf.
For a little more on the character, I plan on casting blood bio and create treasure map whenever I can, and putting all the information down in a book. (Yes, even the pieces of skin I used for the treasure maps go into the book.)
Part of the goal is to emulate the Hiruma effect. Hiruma is a character from eyeshield 21 who would use a combination of threats and information to turn people into his slaves. Along with this he always has the ability to pull guns from hammer space and drive people into submission. Practically every scene where he isn't playing football, he is carrying or polishing an M16.

Any of these would work well. If you went half elf you could get free exotic weapon training and it could match the way Hiruma was generally drawn pointy ears and what not. Although you couldn't go the full chain with bard the dazzling display chain would fit your theme.
If you go the devil route you could go with the theme of using your info to force people to make contracts with you. In the Cheliax supplement there are a few spiked chain centered feats and an intimidating looking helmet that gives you an extra attack.
Cornugon Smash lets you make an intimidate check as a free action after hitting someone with a power attack.
Cornugon Shield lets your spiked chain give you a shield bonus
Fury's Fall would let you add both your Str and Dex to trip attempts if you want to go the improved trip route.

Just throwing my hat in here, but at this site they list the Scorpion Whip as an alternative to the 'standard' whip, useable so long as you can use a Whip.
The description lists the weapon as having sharp blades embedded at the tip, but alternative descriptions could be a whip made out of hundreds of small steel links, the edges hammered flat to a wicked edge, for a 'vicious' look.

Yep, if i go whip, I have to go scorpion whip. I don't want a weapon that is useless in dealing damage almost all the time.
The saber was one I saw as well.
Half-elf.. I think really the only reason why I've not been thinking about going half-elf is that it selects 2 classes and I feel like i'm wasting that. :(
Though +20 rounds of bardic music..
Can the arcane training racial make it so i use those wands and such as say a level 2 bard if I'm level 1?
And with the blood heritage feature.. does that mean i can select elf or human feats?
