So there's this table top game I want to join, and one of my ideas for a character was a male elven inquisitor of Calistria that tends to focus more on the vengeance part of her portfolio. My GM said that this would be fine, but I need to do some work on his backstory and such to help 'sell' him on it.
Seeing as Calistria seems to be the main elven deity, I think having an elf focused on her in her vengeance aspect instead of another deity makes a fair amount of sense. I'm thinking of having him be chaotic good, but I'm afraid that I might be pushing it as far as how far away he's getting from her tenants.
I'd really appreciate some help as far as...whether this is doable or not. The game is pretty fluff heavy, so not worrying about the fluff isn't really an option (and I wouldn't want to do that anyway). One of my ideas was that the inquisitor was raised in on of her temples, but is actually asexual, so he strives to uphold her other values besides pleasure (to an unhealthy degree) in order to make up for his lack of lust. I'm open to any and all thoughts though, including 'this is a horrible idea and you should die'.

Your inquisitor could easily be chaotic good, a follower of Calistria, focused on vengeance, AND capable of indulging in Calistria's other two vices of choice.
You can be celibate/chaste and follow Calistria; maybe just be a shameless flirt as well. Inspiring lust doesn't necessarily mean you have to indulge in it as well. As a 'good' person it may be a more reflexive flirtatiousness, no malice intended. The same can go for the treachery aspect; you can be capricious and play friendly pranks and tricks on friends or even strangers, and never have to cross that line into serious treachery. Remember that you are Chaotic; it's very hard to impose the 'right way' of doing things on a chaotic individual as they tend to define their own right way.
As for vengeance, well, there's all sort of righteous vengeance options. Retribution for wrongdoing on behalf of others would pretty much be your bread and butter, your easy justification for adventuring. Not everyone has what it takes to rise up and avenge themselves on their oppressors, so you do it on their behalf, for your goddess, and for the challenge (and depending how 'good' you are or are not, for the potential of a reward).
For backstory... well, if you don't really fit in with all three aspects of Calistria equally, you might also find you don't fit in well in the temple either. It would make for a fairly straight forward justification for getting out on the road and making your own way, practicing your faith the way you want to. Leaving the temple doesn't make you any less devout, exactly, so pursuing vengeance becomes your act of faith. From there, it's really up to you to flesh out bigger details.
Hopefully that gives you some ideas to mull over!

Wow, that helps a lot, thanks! I think I'm going to edge away from the asexual idea I had, since my GM pointed out that I'm already playing an asexual narcissistic summoner (oops, not sure why I forgot about that). I should still be able to figure out a reason why he's not fully in the temple...or maybe he's still in it, but decided to take a more 'hands on' approach on spreading the faith, instead of spending his days as a temple prostitute.

I played a male half orc inquis of calistra and focused on freedom. It worked really well. the dude hated social law (written or not) that prevented someone from acting in a 'natural' manner. Thus he despised the chain of marriage when it got tired, but respected those who freely chose to be loving life long partners.. get it? He also detested slavery and the creation and use of 'undead' since most did not choose to assume the template and are instead enslaved to the necro that created them.
I have always had issues with the 'asexual' bit at a table but that's me. Especially for an elf... weird. Hermaphrodite sure but... oh well. I think what you are saying is that you like to keep the bedroom talk out of the game and I respect that but I don't think it's necessary to make an asexual char. my two cents.Regardless you should have fun with Calistra she be plenty conflicted, ain't it great.

I have a female half-elf inquisitor of Calistria NPC in one of my games right now. She focuses particularly on tracking down people who corrupt the realm of sexual pleasure that is part of her domain. So the NPC hunts down sexual predators, abusive spouses, pedophiles, and slave-traders who sell their captives into forced sex brothels (as opposed to the more willing kind that Calistria approves of).
