Discern Location - exactly what do you learn?

Rules Questions

My players have just got access to this spell and have a number of enemies that got away, that they are looking for.

What exactlly does this spell reveal? The wording is not very clear.

Does the spell reveal the exact location as in "The BBEG is sitting in the Happy Drunk Tavern on Swan Street in the Merchant District of the city of Montaigne in the Western Kingdoms on the planet of Frangere" or less precise info?

Also what happens if the BBEG leaves the Happy Drunk Tavern? Does the spell continue to reveal their location or must it be cast again?

Thanks in advance

Exactly that. You've more or less paraphrased the spell description, down to the name of the building.

It's instantaneous. It locates the target at the instant the spell is cast. If the caster wants to know where the target is 10 minutes later, he has to cast the spell again.

It seems clear with named locations, but what if the target is in the wilderness somewhere? The spell reads "learning the exact location", but then the specific list of what is revealed only talks about names.

If the bugbear brigand is hiding in a cave in the Deep Dark Jungle, is that all that would be revealed? Or would it use map coordinates or approximate distance measurements ("10.2 miles north northeast of the village of Yipee")? Or is there a better way?

I'm kind of on the fence about this one.

What if the spell tells them the location but the PC's don't know what it means?

Not in a "ha ha DM screwed you" way but more in a "you need to do some research" way.

Like.

"Where is Bob the Bouncer"

"Bob the bouncer is on the 7th floor of the South West Tower of the Castle of Crannick in the Crannick County of Crannick Kingdom on the Crannick Asteroid, Prime Material Plane."

Now the Pc's know exactly where he is- even if they don't know where that is.

A trip to a library, cartographer, or scholar may be in order. (or maybe just more divination spells or something).

Or something like:

"Bob the Bouncer is in the Treasury of the Bugbear King located in the Cave of the Bugbears in the Forgotten Forest in the Kingdom of Cheliax".

The PC's still have to go find the forest and then the cave (and then the treasury) but they still know he's there.

At least thats IMO. It tells them where he's at, not how to get there from where the PC's are.
