Cleric Rage Power & Extra Rage

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

This might sound like cheese, but if a Cleric or Inquisitor gains access to rage through the Destruction domain power, can he then get more rounds through Extra Rage?

Shadow Lodge

Well, it is, honestly, up to the GM.

It depends entirely on the interpretation of the feat's prequisities. Extra Rage feat requires "rage class feature", which currently only barbarians have, but the cleric domain gives you access to a "Rage(Su)" ability, which is similar enough to "Rage(Ex)". If the gm interprets the domain ability as a "class feature" then the feat may be taken by Inquisitors of Ragathiel(om nom nom, delicious cheese) for instance. Naturally, many gms will just handwave this, since it is essentially the same ability. I do think that distinction between su and ex warrants some discussion, but that's an in-universe subject.*

Now when it comes to Extra Rage Power feat, the prequisite changes to "rage power class feature", which again begs gm fiat. I'd let both of these things pass, but, on the other hand, I like the Rule of Cool. :D

*on that note, this distinction could be interpreted as the difference between a terrestial ability and a supernatural, divinely granted one. Would then some rage powers, such as animal fury or fiendish totem, be available to an Inquisitor of the Empyreal Lord of Divine Duty and Chastity?

We allow it.

This subdomain actually made Gorum an awesome deity. Before Travel, Freedom was 'best'. Between the Destructive Smite Power, Rage, the granted Rage powers and allowing the extra rage power feat, it makes Gorum the best deity for a war cleric.

As it should be, he is the Lord of Battles after all.

Because a cleric needs to be able to cast in Melee I like
8 Rage, Wounding Blade
9 Channel Energy 5d6, Extra Rage
10
11 Channel Energy 6d6, Cleave
12 Rage Power: Moment of Clarity
13 Channel Energy 7d6, Extra Rage Power: Reckless Abandon
14
15 Channel Energy 8d6, Dazing Assault
16 Rage Power: Inspire Ferocity
17 Channel Energy 9d6, Extra Rage Power: Superstition
18
19 Channel Energy 10d6, Extra Rage Power: Roused anger

The cool thing is rage is +2 to hit/damage, ferocious wpn adds +2 to hit and damage (now worth +4) and at 20 reckless abandon adds +3 to hit. So with a free action you added +7 to hit and +4 to damage, cast Divine Power before you rage and your war cleric is rockin +13 to hit and +10 to damage.

clerics are not barbarians. having a I get to be angry domain power does not mean the /cleric/ gets to steal things from another class. if a cleric wants rage powers they should have to multi class.

I honestly don't think the extra rage is so bad ( but clearly not raw) but the rage powers no way.

Uh...that's not a Feat or Hose Rule use, it's an actual, official, existing part of the Rage Domain power. They only ever get two, one each at 12th and 16th level, though, while Barbarians get 10 over the course of their career.

Scarab Sages

Considering you have to be at the mid-levels to start getting them, and considering a cleric's rage rounds don't go up with his level, I wouldn't be opposed to allowing him to take the Extra Rage feat. Even with the rage powers, a barbarian can easily have way more. But why worry about spellcasting during combat? Just hit some generic cleric pre-battle buffs, and then go into a homicidal rage.

Also, remember that Barbarians still get better stats from raging anyways, so it all seems to work out to me.

Rage is a class feature for a Gorum cleric. The domain is a class feature and the domain grants rage.

So, we allow the extra rage power feat. Mostly because the bonuses on most on them scale with level and a cleric is only considered 1/2 level.

EG Reckless abandon grants a barb +6 to hit and a cleric +3.

Whatsmore a cleric would be stupid not to blow at least one on Moment of clarity if he wants to cast while raging (and he'll need to...)

I'm sorry I guess I missed a supplement. What is ferocious weapon?

Sorry a FURIOUS weapon. In the magic item section of APG.
